    Electric boiler?

I needed some sort of test boiler to run a pair of engines I was building for the model of the W.T. Preston. A stern wheel snag boat that removed snags to navigation in the puget sound. It was retired in 1982. I did not have the vessel boiler it was with the vessel at the builders house. I also...

    Silver-Solder Question

Your local welder supply house is your best source for good quality silver brazing alloys. You can also get the two types of flux that you will need, there is white and black. The black is for working with higher temps. You can also get good propane torches and propane. Do not use oxy- act for...

SS does not make a very good cylinder liner. You would be better off with cast iron or bronze. Dave

Will this CNC machine do it for making a scale v8?

In a word NO that machine is not a good choice for what you would someday like to do. It is too small and light duty. For it's size it is over priced. For building engines you do a lot of lathe work. If you are in a Euro country there are a lot of small manual metal lathes available. Get one...

New surface grinder for my shop

John I have a machine that looks just like yours. My down feed is graduated to .001" so one of the first things I did figure out a vernier scale and print it on one of my printers. Just taped it to the machine but now I can dial in .0001". Dave

lost wax casting in sand ?

Have all your safety gear on when you do that because there is a good chance that bad things will happen when hot metal hits cold wax. It normally take several hours in a burn out oven to remove all of the wax from a flask. Metal is generally poured into the flask with vac assist and the flask...

lost wax casting in sand ?

If you do not have the equipment to burn out for investment casting there is another way to do it. Do a search on Lost Foam Casting. You make your pattern in foam. Then you add risers and sprues. You place your pattern in a container of fine loose sand with a tall pour cup to give extra head...

I use nuts and bolts from these folks http://rtlfasteners.com/ and these folks http://www.americanmodeleng.com/index.html Both have good pricing. I used close to 100 nuts and bolts for this set of engines in a stern wheeler. https://youtu.be/QEYhOBMRTHU Dave

    Making a broach

That is going to be a very hard broach to make in the home shop. I have all the machinery that it would take to make one but I would not want to. Just sharping it after heat treating would be a real job. I expect if they are sold by some one that they are very expensive but it may be cheaper and...
