Making a model propeller out of steel

Simply fantastic. Now all you have to do is paint the blade tips yellow.

    Drilling tiny holes

Here's how I would approach the problem. You want to make several identical pieces. Therefore, the only way to go (besides EDM) is to make a suitable drill bit. I'd have a go of tinkering around with a hard abrasive stone and some fine needles (or possibly string wire) until I got a working tool...

    Flourescent Light Danger !!!!!!!!!!!!

This strobe effect can be cancelled by using two lamps simultaneously. There's a double ballast for that, which sets one of the lamps off-phase from the other.

    Twin tube boiler

I may be wrong but I recall seeing a Stuart boiler which used the same design. Indeed, this page might be of interest to you: http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/ftopic20261-0-0-asc-double.php+barrel+boiler

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys :)

    G'day!

Ahoy, fellow machinists, I've posted a few times before, but never got around to introducing myself. I live in Estonia and I'm well on my way of becoming an adult, currently scoring in at 16 long years. These years, especially last three ones have resulted in me becoming part engineer and part...

    restoration of old wobler

This is as far as light years from Jensen. Try posting this to http://mamodforums.co.uk/ Those fellows will sort it out. It is a German engine, and there are many German experts there. I'd say something from Doll, but nothing certain.

    Boiler for WOMBAT

Ooh, that is nice. From what I understand, the boiler shell is steel and only the tubes are copper? Great work :)

Acetal (plastic) piston and/or valves, anyone ever tried it?

A little OT, but how about a plastic called Ertalon 6A? I have a bar of it, it's really cheap compared to brass, it'll withstand the heat by far. Anyone heard of this plastic?

    A big boiler build

So far I've riveted three plates together, out of four to make the boiler shell. Why am I riveting the shell instead of just using a tube? Simple, probably the closest place to get a pipe of such diameter is nearly 100km away. Anyway, I've considered a lot of possibilities, so far I've decided...

    A big boiler build

Thanks for the response. What I'm worried about with the cadmium is that the condensate coming from the boiler. Could I just throw the condensate away somewhere like I would do with normal water? This issue might sound stupid, but I need to be sure I'm not poisoning myself or anybody else...

    A big boiler build

Hello! I'm going to try and build a quite big boiler. If I remember correctly, it's 4x7.8 inches. The measurements are purely theoretical, as the boiler shell is being riveted together from 4 plates. End caps are going to be copper riveted as well. Anyway, I decided it's going to have 13 0.4...

boiler explosion. what not to do.

Thank You, Arnold. Actually I'm not new to the world of boilers and their design, I did build some boilers this summer. However, most of them failed. ;D Soft-soldered, of course. I had one success as well - a steam turbine plant, which runs to this day, although there's a bad leak in the boiler...

boiler explosion. what not to do.

As I'm on the road of building a boiler, I should ask this right now. If I completely rivet a boiler together and solder the seams with soft solder, it should be fine, right? At the moment I do not have enough heat to properly solder a boiler of such size (3x7,8 inch, if I remember correctly)...

    Steel boilers

Yes, of course I do. I just like the looks of a riveted boiler, so I'll rivet the ends and the shell together.

    Steel boilers

My apologies! Thanks for the information though! :)

    Steel boilers

The pipes are raw iron. Uhh, I can't imagine adding water treatment to a boiler. Looks like I'm a candidate for a riveted copper non-steel boiler. I can still use the shell as a water preheating boiler. That way it won't have any pressure.

    Steel boilers

Hello! I have just joined this nice forum in order to get some advice. I'm considering building an iron boiler. The boiler shell measures 16cm diameter and 37cm in length/ a bit over six inches by 14.5 inches long. The material is 3mm thick. Main shell gives 7,6l of displacement. The material...
