    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Yes me too. I got the engine mounted on the base and added some rubber feet underneath. My hose clamps came in so I installed the fuel lines. Thanks for looking Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Nerd1000 like many of the things I try I have no idea if this will help or hinder but just trying something different. One of my sides on the wood base was 0.025 shorter than the opposite side and I was trying to think of a way to even it up when it struck me that it doesn't matter. Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

From what I have seen on my engines since the pipes to each cylinder is transparent there is an unequal amount of fuel going to the weak cylinder. I hope the current setup will help with this. Made a base from poplar with a walnut stain and clear finish today. Also started on a separate...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

You guys are talking way over my head but it is interesting. I am working on the fuel system now and I am going to try an up draft carb configuration. All of my multi piston engines have one cylinder that doesn't work as hard as the others. Some of the cylinders are too rich and some are too...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Well I don't understand all of what has been said but I am sure the crank is much stronger now. Thanks for the comments. I have been practicing my tubing bending skills today. The local hardware store has some thin wall 5/16" brass coated tubing 3 feet long for $7.00. Now I have tried to...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

The new crankshaft installed in the block. Rod bearings and pistons installed and everything still runs true. This is where we were 10 days ago but now we have a new crank shaft. Thanks for looking Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Thanks K2 I assembled the crank pieces last night with Loc-Tite and left them to set over night. I then installed tapered pins at all stress points and put it in the engine block. As expected it was a perfect fit but I still had not cut out the main shaft to allow for the rods. Cutting out...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

I have been trying to make the original crank work with a center main bearing but every thing I try just makes it worse. Those pieces will go into the "Too good to throw away" bin and I will start over on a new crank shaft. The new crank will not have needle rod bearings as originally designed...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Thanks for the ideas. I will be adding a center crank bearing and closely inspect the entire crankshaft. Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

The good news first. I made a mount for my distributor and coupled it to the cam via 2 bevel gears. It tracks and turns smoothly. Now the bad news. I was spinning the engine over with my drill and noticed a problem. Around 3000 rpms the flywheel was not tracking straight. When I slowed down...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Yes K2 you get a gold star as the flywheel does turn clockwise. I have never done multi cylinder atmospheric intake valves before is there something about them that I should know?

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

The intake valves are atmospheric so no cam is needed. They are opened by suction on the intake stroke of each cylinder. Ray

Four brass cam lobes with set screws. I also made up the timing belt tensioner and set the exhaust valve timing. Another view. I have good compression on all four cylinders. Happy Dance Thanks for looking Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

You are right K2 we just don't know but will find out later. Thanks for the comment they are appreciated. Progress I cutout and polished the cam support blocks and installed the cam bearings. I also roughed out the cam shaft. Then on to the upper cam pulley next. The cam pulley didn't...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Had a little time today so I made some risers to allow for the new flywheel diameter. Thanks for looking Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

I use a drag knife on a vacuum table to cut my gaskets. I would hate to think what they would look like if I did them with a scissors and knife. Cutting two, one for a spare. I drilled, counter bored and tapped the four spark plug holes in the head. Then I installed the newly cut head...

    Let's make a 4 cylinder flat

I believe I have plenty of irregularities in my cylinder liners. :) Thank you sir for the kind words. Ray

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Got home yesterday all rested up and ready to go. First item is to make a valve leakage test plate to fit this engine. I can will work on one cylinder at a time lapping the valves until I get good results. Testing Cylinder #3 valves. All four done for now but I won't know just how good...

    4 Cylinder Inline Engine

I made up 10 valves today so I could get 8 that I liked. This is the way I make them. All valves cut to length and threaded. The intake valves are shorter by about 1/4". Why? Because I didn't want to make any more. I have not lapped them in yet but that will have to wait for a few days...

    Ring gear for Edwards radial.

A well thought out and executed idea. Ray
