Looking for hex wrenches with hardened ends

Brian, I needed the same exact sizes as you. I do not recall where I ordered them from but they were inexpensive . I ordered 25 of each size. So far I am still on the first one of each size. Have not needed to grind a new face after about 6 months of use. Unless I misplace them the allen...

Need advice and help : A remote display caliper

I bought a set of three Igauging digital displays. One actually worked. I also bought two adaptors for plug in use instead of batteries. Sent several emails to these crooks and never got a reply. I threw them in a drawer and then bought Shars displays. Shars digital displays worked perfectly...

Mini Lathe Issues and Concept Execution

I once built a locomotive from various woods. Took me 6 months. Does not run on steam or compressed air, does a nice job of a mailbox. Someone liked too much , stole it from my yard. Your neighbor can give Biden a run for his money on lies. mike from

    Mini Lathe belt slipping

Your manual should tell you how to adjust the motor belt tension. I have a Cummings . Under the switch box there may be 3 screws. These are supposed to be adjusted to tension the belt. Your lathe may be different, check the manual. I could never get the belt tight enough with the procedure...

Cutting oils What do you use?

Plumber's light cutting oil on steel. WD-40 or kerosene on aluminum, Castrol Moly Dee on copper. No lubricant on brass and bronze. I do not smell a bad odor from any of the above.

    Milling Hexagons

I had to mill an octagon on a piece of 2" steel. I faced the work and milled it square. Cut it 3" long. Placed a parallel on the flat and two V bocks on the parallel. The vice jaws were replaced with 2" high jaws . The work was placed in the V blocks , the mill height was set . The work was...

    What is it?

I have seen these before. Grandfather used them in different ways. Short ones used to set up sine bar. Thread was 64 tpi or so. Also used them for taper turning. Half ball instead of 60° point . He made them . added lock nuts .

turning a square part to small for the chuck

Thanks for all the replies. I tried it my way and it worked out perfectly. I added a 3/48 screw to the two pieces to hold them together. Placed the jig in the 4 jaw and indicated each side. Threaded the part after turning. thanks mike

turning a square part to small for the chuck

I need to thread a 2/56 thread on a 1/8" square part. My chuck will not close tight enough. I do not have collets at this time. I think I can accomplish this with a shop made fixture. Part is 1/8" square and 2-1/4" long. I will mill a slot 0.0620 deep and 0.125 wide in steel 1/4" x 1/2" and 5"...

Next time use "white out" to stop the flow of solder. This is the stuff used to erase typos. Looks like white paint. Comes with a small brush applicator. Brush it on where you do not want solder to flow. Make sure it is dry when you apply the torch. Only takes seconds to dry. One time I applied...

    Round Column Mill

Remove both bolts and check for interference in the yoke gap. Replace the bolts and use a longer wrench to tighten the bolts. I use a 1/2" drive ratchet wrench. A friend uses a spud wrench. mike

    Round Column Mill

I have a round column mill. When adjusting the height the accuracy is lost. No problem, Install a point or a wiggler and re-position the X & Y axis. I use a point , takes under 30 seconds to install the point and re-position the axis. This works for center finding. If the work is off center...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

Great job, I also had a slight problem with the opening for the safety valve and throttle. I made the opening 1/8" longer. I will have to remake the steam dome Have you sourced the humidifier valve that Rudy shows? I do not understand this part of the build. Supposedly water level in the boiler...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

I made the boiler almost first, after the wheels. Rudy's method of opening up the boiler tube with a 3/16" rod did not work for me. I bored 5/32 " holes straight down. Then made a 3/16" D bit 10" long. Do not recall exact length of the D bit but the long bit keeps the drill motor off the...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

Drawing shows the depth of the valve 15/64 = .096 slot cannot be .312 deep . If I recall I made the slot .156 deep. Instead of the bulb at the end of the valve spindle I will thread the valve as shown but mill a slot perpendicular to the slot and make a threaded nut. This method allows the D...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

Thanks, I knew the turned down portion was to trap the spindle in the valve. Common sense should have told me the spindle is turned down .061 to fit the valve. I was going to use blue Loctite on the threads but jam nut will work too. Wonder why the leads are different thickness. The drawing...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

Nice work, I have a question. I have finished most of the work on the cylinder and steam chest . Rudy shows a 1/16 " slot thru the valve. The valve spindle is 3/32" with 2/56 x 1/4" thread on the end. Is the slot the correct dimension? Spindle is 3/32" = .096 , slot is 1/16" = .062. The...
