    4 stroke.

I used to fly R/C alot but haven't for some time now. Back in the 90's I had a Saito 80 just like you've pictured. Saito's have a great rep but my Saito 80 never ran right from the start. I fancy myself an excellent glow engine tuner but I could never get that Saito to run well. It had very...

    Stirling engine startup

Heat it up and spin it ;D Mine wouldn't hardly run then I took it all apart and concentrated on making it leak free and as friction free as possible. Works great now.

which oil to use to lube a hit-n-miss

Bob Shores recommended WD-40 mixed in the fuel. I made up a 16oz fuel container of break in mix with about 25% wd-40/75% coleman fuel. The plan was to switch to 10% wd after break in. That was about 4 years ago and I've got about 4 oz left! Nice mix cause inside the exhaust smell isn't too bad.

    Machining Teflon

My only concern with Teflon is dimensional changes with humidity... You want a perfect fit in a LTD stirling. I made my piston out of graphite, cylinder out of 303SS. Ordered the graphite from MSC I think. Mine's ran almost two years everyday on top of the coffee pot for an hour a day or...

My first Hot Air (Stirling) Engine

My two stirling engines ran at first but not all that great... both had very small leaks. Check for leaks!

Phil, What is the compression ratio? Hit and miss?

Geared flywheel and super slow engine pondering.

I like steam engines running super slow, lets you view the works. I the sound and looks of a open horizontal hit and miss engine.. Mine runs slow but still the conrod and piston are moving pretty quick. Imagine a slow running big flywheel'd horizontal engine running at say 200rpm, now imagine...

    Myranda Stirling Fan... IT RUNS!

Bought the kit from: http://www.thestirlingoutlet.com/ Nice kit, nothing terribly tough, part drawings are clear and complete. An assembly drawing would have been nice though, If I hadn't build a stirling engine already the lack of assembly drawing would have been confusing. Third run below...

stirling fan almost done... Best Fuel to burn?

Hi all, I'm about 98% finished with a Moryia stirling fan. I'm about to start on the alcohol burner for it and got to thinking about the fuel. What's the best fuel to run in these? Do they all soot up the hot tube? I was thinking Methyl Alcohol but thought I'd ask those in the know.

    LTD Stirling

I tried hot wire cutting mine with less than great results. I ended up taping my foam and flycutting 1/2 off each side (to control warp). I used alcohol to dissolve the glue on the tape, worked like a champ. I tried acetone 1st, that succeeded in melting my foam displacer!
