Would you like space in a workshop? (Surrey, UK)

Just to add, between us we have a lot of equipment which we usually are happy to let each other use on occasion. It is not guaranteed as part of the rent but there will be possible access to lathes, a mill, grinders, polishers, power hacksaw, vices, airlines, lifting equipment, a car lift among...

Would you like space in a workshop? (Surrey, UK)

A friend and I lease an industrial unit for some hobby engineering/car projects. We sublet most of the space out to make the space affordable for ourselves as well as other enthusiasts. If you are interested joining a community of like-minded enthusiasts and using some of our space please...

    Storage on a budget.

Brian, thanks for the advice. I can see that happening exactly as you have said. That has gone straight on to my to-do list. Cheers!

    Storage on a budget.

Thanks black85vette. I was pleased with the result. It is a necessity to go vertical but not through lack of space. There is plenty more in the other rooms. The problem is the amount of stuff! Like I say, I am a bit of a hoarder ;) Rob - The bars were there when I moved in. It is on an...

    Storage on a budget.

I'm a bit of a hoarder which I think can be very handy in this hobby and especially when you try and do everything to the tightest budget possible. So I was very pleased when a big pile of unused wood and chipboard landed in my direction (Having a workshop on an industrial estate means access...

    My New(ish) Workshop

Hehe. Most of the guesses are far more interesting than the actual project. It is a partially finished (or eternally unfinished) MEV Rocket without its wheels. The picture here is with its wheels on. The badge on the cover was a bit of a red herring. It says SLR but is just one I picked up as...

    My New(ish) Workshop

I will try and remember to take a picture without the cover when I am down there tonight. In the mean time would anyone care to guess??

    My New(ish) Workshop

I finally moved in a few months ago and am almost beginning to have settled. It is always a toss up between getting on with various projects and working on the workshop itself. Still a lot to tidy away properly and more storage needed but it is coming along.

    New Workshop

Nice workshop! I am seeing a lot of inspiration for mine now, and not just the beer fridge! All those lights and white walls must make for a great working environment. It's time I get the paint brush our. Cheers, Mike

    european team build?

Hello, Has this project got off the ground yet? I would be very keen to join in. I have milling and lathe capabilities all ready to go and just about know what to do with them. I'd be interested in whatever project really but I would have thought keeping it simple will be the best way to get a...

A shop by any other name........

I like to call mine the Workshop but it mostly gets referred to by others as the Unit. It is basically an industrial unit, which is a common term in England (not sure about elsewhere) so this is not surprising.

    Drilling with Milling Machine?

Hello, I have a Warco Major Milling machine which I use for milling but am increasingly using it as a pillar drill too. Is this detrimental to the machine in any way? The machine in question: http://www.warco.co.uk/milling-machines/36-major-milling-drilling-machine.html I would like to know...

Wobbly Engine Plan - Finished, I think?

Hi Steve, Thanks for the vote of confidence. I will try and update on here when I have some decent progress. The CAD package I used is Catia. It's not a cheap package however. I used some old kit I had left from being a student but if you were to buy it now it is prohibitively expensive. We...

Wobbly Engine Plan - Finished, I think?

Hello, Thanks to loads of helpful advice on HMEM I have completed the plans for my first engine design. The design is based on stock metals and parts I have available so a couple of the parts may seem odd such as the 8mm crank shaft and the narrow and long flywheel. I have started to cut...
