I got one of the end caps machined and drilled but had to wait for Mcmaster to bring a new 1/4" reamer. Not much to hold on to and took some time to true up but seamed to end up OK.

Yes the dynamo will be driven by the 5. Then I plan on making a couple lamps out of small led flash lights. I'm sure the boiler is in my future as well. How was that to build?
Pack Rat thats relay nice. The PM #5 is a 5/8" bore X 7/8" stroke. It runs very nice on air. I will put up a vid when I have time to figure that out.
I was looking at the Stewart models but was scared off by the British fastener sizes.
I have the PM research dynamo kit also but haven't...
Try watching Toms Video about knurling. It helped me understand the importance of having the correct size part to start off with.

Thanks Gordon. I understand what you are saying but the but the Rolie dad method of checking is only for headstock alignment. it dose not use the tailstock at all.when I an reasonably sure I have the bed aligned I will move on to the tailstock. I did put a dial test indicator in the chuck and...
Can you veterans take a look at this setup and tell me if it looks logical?
I am using the already machined bosses for the valve slide bearings as a datum.
This set up is so I can indicate off that surface and machine the inside and outside of the main bearings.

Blogwitch I don't think it us a wear issue, the lathe ( a 618 by the way ) is overall in very good condition. I have not checked it with a test bar cut yet, but that is next. Unfortunately I don't a machinist level to check the ways but I think I could borrow...

Starting to build a PM Research #5. (Coke bottle) Thought I would check alignment with Rollie Dad method and I ended up putting almost 1/8" under front of tailstock end foot. that seams like a lot. I checked carefully and i am within 2 thou 16 inches from chuck, about .0005 at 6"...
