    Clutch---Again!!!

Hi Brian, what you also could think of is a drum break style clutch. That way you would also get rid of the axial thrust on the bearings. Could be actuated with a slide/claw thingy. There are also automatic engaging/disengaging designs with the right spring size and pad weight used...

    a rather unspectacular stirling engine...

Thanks Giacomo. Frans, yes, the flange works as thermal barrier and yes, I think it is key. Having said that it doesnt mean a stirling wouldnt work without that... But as I mentioned in the post on top of this page you can do two things- b) and c) and if you do c) reasonably well you can skip...

    a rather unspectacular stirling engine...

Hi folks, so this weekend I had a friend coming along and we did some speed measurements. Max speed measured was 1250rpm! Relly pleased with that! In the meantime I must have lost my motivation to make a nice burner and base plate... If someone spots my motivation- please direct it back to me...

    My single cylinder engine

Congrats on the runner! But man, watch your fingers! I'm getting the heeby-jeeby's seeing you handle the engine like this while running - the open crank and open valve drive, the flywheel with the spokes... Can be all very OUCH!! Cheers, Karsten

Simple 2-stroke engine (Jan Ridders design)

Congrats, well done! The 1st run is always the best- and the real good thing is, its the same joy and reward on every new project! :D Cheers, Karsten

Issue with CAM and or tappet, need help

Borna, if there is a chance try to minimise the distance of where the guide starts to the tip of the cam. Reducing the free and overhanging part of the tappet and increase the guidance will improve. Also the connection of the tappet holder to the frame looks a bit thin. Is there a special...

Issue with CAM and or tappet, need help

Hi Borna, maybe you need a longer guidance for your tappets. I suspect when the cam is starting to press the tappet down there is a force that wants to tilt the tappet which then results in a blockage. If that should be the cause you could also think about what valve lift you actually need and...

    a rather unspectacular stirling engine...

Hi all, had some time to think about that 'upgrade kit' with the cooling fan and stuff. Some headscratching and a measurement later it becomes more or less apparent to me that the fan installation is not only looking pretty silly but there is also no big benefit to expect. The stirling lives...

    My single cylinder engine

Ah- just discovered the other thread in the questions-corner... So it already got sufficiently discussed... Never mind then... :hDe: Cheers, Karsten

    My single cylinder engine

Hi Borna, my two penny worth would be something like this. Have a shoulder for the flywheel to be bolted against. And then use a feather key (or two) with a tight fit to transfer the tourque. However I cannot judge if your design still allows this. You would not want a crack to develop in the...

    a rather unspectacular stirling engine...

Hmm- big question mark poppingup. After some fiddling around in CAD I'm not so sure about the cooling fan anymore. Somehow the proporions look a bit ridiculous... Side view of the fan housing- I could reduce the outer diameter slightly but not too much really. The housing I dont want to skip...
