Is this drill press worth fixing up?

I currently only have a lathe. I am looking for a drill press as my next item to buy. I found this one for $25 on craigslist. It looks rusty but nice and heavy. Any thoughts?

    James R. Senft's "Tapper" Plans?

They are in Senft's book "Miniature Ringbom Engines". I included a link below for the Moriya Press website. I believe they are the publisher. If you are interested in stirling engines, I highly recommend the book. There are 2 other Ringbom engine plans included as well as a good conceptual...

    Ringbom Stirling Engine ("Tapper")

As it warms up I have been organizing the shop in order to continue work on my Tapper engine. I started the cold end of the displacer cylinder yesterday. First I faced and trued up the bottom of the cold end. Next I drilled the 3/8 hole for the displacer rod bushing. Up next: Boring...

    Project II, stirling done

The standard setup for these sorts of engines is 90 degrees phase difference between the displacer and the power piston.

    Project II, stirling done

Very nice looking engine. You may try nylon washers between the brass spacers and the plates as well as between the screws and the plates.

I am anxious to see the process for this build. Very neat design. Can't Wait!

    Ringbom Stirling Engine ("Tapper")

Miniature Ringbom Engines by James R. Senft. I highly recommend his books.

    Ringbom Stirling Engine ("Tapper")

I have done quite a bit of work on the lathe lately. Not so much on the Ringbom. I am still getting the lathe tweaked and setup as I go. I have a feeling this will be a continuous process. As for the work on the Tapper, I made the base tonight so I was able to get some more mockup shots of what...

    Ringbom Stirling Engine ("Tapper")

After some time in the shop I came to a similar conclusion. I will stick with the flywheel I have made for now. After the first test run, I will test a heavier flywheel out of curiosity (or necessity, we will see). I like this idea for a permanently heavier flywheel if necessary. Thanks...

    Ringbom Stirling Engine ("Tapper")

I was sitting yesterday thinking about my progress on "Tapper" and became worried about my choice of aluminum rather than brass for the flywheel. Too little rotational inertia will almost certainly cause sporadic motion of the power piston. So..... as a true BSME I did some math. The rotational...

    3 Cyl Spider

Very nice animation. Do you export the video directly from your CAD software?

    Scuderi engine

This build just might get me into building an IC engine next. It has also inspired me that I'm not the only one to remake parts. Great Work!!!

Finished modeling up engine, now time to build.

Nice fixture there at the end. I like the inventiveness. I will be sticking around on this thread to see how it goes for you. Best of luck!

    Gears...

WOW! I am amazed by this.

A concept about single point threading

This type of tool holder along with an http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/ThreadingTools.html#AutoStop could be a very nice combination for lots of threading operations.
