Sherline, Microlux or the Taig lathe/mill?

I strongly recommend Sherline. Join the Sherline forum at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/sherline/ Dan Pines, a Sherline distributor in Israel, is a regular participant. Drop him a line, drop my name. I am occasionally tempted to get a Sieg machine. All I have to do to talk myself out of...

    1915 and 1941 Machineries Handbook

I spent my career in the machine shop at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. It's one of NASA's largest, about 8000 square feet. The main floor is end grain hardwood blocks on a concrete slab. The blocks are around 6 to 8 inches square and 4 inches thick. It's a nice...

needed plans info on stirling engine featured in hsm aprox 2005 or so

HSM Nov/Dec 2005. The only other one I've seen was at Cabin Fever, last year I think. It's a fine project. Two excellent ideas it incorporates: Use in-line skate bearings, very high quality, reasonable price compared to comps. Use a large bronze bushing for the power cylinder -- perfect...

    Sherline Hybrid 2000/4000 Milling Machine

Instead of enclosures, I've made a variety of chip screens over the years. Easily made in a few minutes, any size and shape needed -- piece of 1/10 inch plexi, cut a slot in a scrap of wood with the table saw. Can be placed anywhere needed, and stored compactly when not. Leaves the equipment...

    Sherline Hybrid 2000/4000 Milling Machine

With this simple mounting scheme, I can quickly and easily attach either a 2000 or a 4000 column in any of 3 positions at any of 3 locations. With this and the extended Y and Z axes I can reach any part of the work envelope with the rotary table or angle plate in any position. The rear bar is 4...

Tramming a small mill (Sherline mill)

Thanks. There's much more to the base than is visible in the above photo. I've made my Sherline mill a hybrid 2000/4000 machine that can be quickly configured in a number of different ways. I don't believe I've posted anything about it on this forum -- will do so in a new thread. Have to find...

Tramming a small mill (Sherline mill)

I use a piece of plate glass, 8 x 8 x 1/4 inch thick, clamped to the mill tooling plate, and a plunger type indicator attached to a piece of bar held in a collet. The larger the radius you indicate, the more sensitive the measurement will be. David Clark in Southern Maryland, USA

    Screws for model engines

I'm after hex heads, not socket heads. See: http://www.microfasteners.com/catalog/products/MSCHBS.cfm Sorry for the misunderstanding. May have a fairly easy workaround, though. I see McMaster sells #5-40 threaded rod and nuts in both brass and plain steel. Could solder or braze a nut onto the...

    Screws for model engines

I'd like black oxide better than stainless, maybe better than brass, for the color as you say. So where can I find #5-40 hex heads in any material besides stainless? DC

    Screws for model engines

McMaster is the first place I look for practically everything. But I've not been able to find hex head screws there smaller than #10-24. Got a part number for 5-40? Microfasteners does have #5-40 x 1/2 in Stainless. Thanks Tony, that's a start. Still looking for brass, though. They and others...
