ShopShoe - Thanks for all your comments. I do enjoy designing and building my own ideas. It's easier than following the plans of others because I can make mine up as I go along. It is especially rewarding when you can make them work!
Mark R. Jonkman - Thanks, the castings generally turned out well, but I did have to fix a few things. In the past, I would have redone the castings until perfect but I ran out energy to do any more pours. Flasks full of sand get heavy quick! I am painting these castings for a change of pace and...
pickleford75 Thanks for your comment. You are probably correct about the buzz sound coming from the coil. It really helps with the idea that it is a hit & miss engine, but then it really is.
Hello everyone, it has been sometime since I was on this site. There several reasons, mainly it has be due much reduced time spent in the shop. I retired 5 yrs ago and almost at the same time was diagnosed to have Multiple Sclerosis. At first, the symptoms progressed fairly slowly so I was...
Hello,
Here are a couple of video I have recently posted on Youtube concerning tool modifications. The first highlights mods I have done to my Harbor Freight 4X6 band saw through the years to improve it's utility and ease of use. Most of these are my version of several mods accumulated from...

Here is short video of modifications and improvements I have made over the years to my horizontal band saw. Most were gleaned from various places on the net. The changes have made the saw I bought 15+ years ago that was barely adequate into a very functional tool that is pleasure to use...
Davo J:
That's how I learned what I know about foundry work by following other threads and sites on casting, especially from this guy:

Have you tried Amazon for thr Irwin tap adapters. They have a desent price, though I don't know if they are...
gus: I think I understand what your asking. I think you mean the sprue and risers plus the flash at the parting line. As you can see from the photo below, I had very little flash and the gates were kind of thin:
This being an aluminum casting, I just use my 4X6 metal band saw in the...
rrnutsplitter: Welcome. I just returned to posting on this site myself. Multiple Sclerosis - ain't it a drag! I was diagnosed with MS myself last August. It was causing me to stay out of shop, but now I've determined that you just have keep plugging along as much as you can for as long as...
Wizard69: I had the issue of finding material when started my foundry. I discovered the local pottery supplies shop had the following: sodium silicate, bentonite clay, very fine silica sand, fire brick and castable refractory used in kiln repair. If there are any near you should check them out.
Wizard69: Thanks - Hey that is a good idea. Made me think of other uses, like a hand reaming guide, staking as you suggested, or low speed sensitive drilling.
Luc: It maybe the only time I'll have a use for the R8 to morse taper adapter that came with my mill!
Brian: Thanks - Did you watch the...
This looks very interesting for an IC engine I hope to build soon. I wish I understood electronic schematics better and knew how to build a circuit!:p
I'll follow this and see if I can figure it out!
