    Ventilation

    A big box fan and an adaptor to hold a thin furnace filter will catch a lot of dust and is inexpensive to make. If you do any spray painting in a furnace room when the furnace comes on you could be in for an explosion...turning the furnace off while spraying is cheap insurance along with a good fan

    If you needed more run time they do make larger cylinders for "paint ball guns" , also Miller or Lincoln use a tiny C02 tank for their portable welders.. I think they go up to 20oz , sold empty and could be filled with compressed air if needed.

    Hard aluminum Vs. mild steel?

    I have tool holders made of both mild steel and 6061t6 pieces.     Black Steel

    The only problem i have ever encountered was with machining the diameter of Cold Rolled Steel is it will bend if you reduce the dia too much. You break through the outer "tough" layer and it will bend. I use HRS for frames and such , things that are welded together.
