Could someone recommend a source for silver solder and flux. My old supply is nearly gone.

    Steam Engine Rotation

This thread may no longer be active but I have a question regarding JorgensenSteam's Edit 04 on page 2. Is the 55 degrees eccentric advance mentioned for a full sized steam engine what is required to clear the slide valve outside lap (to start admitting steam to the top of the cylinder)?

Are plans available for a twin cylinder marine/launch model engine with Stephenson linkage?

    Model Marine Engine

Is it therefore necessary to modify the flywheel to balance the asymmetrical crankshaft throws?

    Model Marine Engine

    That makes sense. Thanks.

    Model Marine Engine

Why are crankshaft throws on twin cylinder model marine engines such as Rudy Kouhoupt's spaced at 90 degrees instead of 180 degrees?

    Collets for 6" Atlas-Craftsman lathe

Thanks very much for support of a rookie. I have the 3/8 by 16tpi drawbar that came with the lathe and, based on inputs, will get an ER20 chuck and collet set. I don't need a milling bit larger than 0.5" so don't need the ER25. I'll also get a 1" by 10tpi thread protector. But what about the...

    Collets for 6" Atlas-Craftsman lathe

My 6" Atlas Craftsman lathe has a 1" by 10tpi spindle. Any advice on ER20 versus 5C or other type chuck collets?

    Collets for 6" Atlas-Craftsman lathe

Yes, I am using the cross slide mounted milling vise that was an accessory to the lathe and mounting the milling cutters in the headstock. Does the thread protector have something to do with the collet chuck and collets?

    Collets for 6" Atlas-Craftsman lathe

I've been chucking milling cutters in a 3-jaw chuck but Tubal Cain disapproves. In looking at collets, there are a plethora of models/types and I would like advice. I'm looking at an ER20 collet chuck for 3/16" drawbar. Can anybody recommend source and/or who to avoid? Do I need wrench...

    Twin Walking Beam

Thanks to Roy from UK and YouTube reviewer who objected to my "****' music, I no longer feel inclined to need public reviews of my humble efforts. I'll just show it to grandkids in the future. Adios from Texas.

    Twin Walking Beam

My Twin Walking Beam model steam engine won a Blue Ribbon at the 2013 State Fair of Texas. The YouTube video can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey-EvvKhHlk

    Twin Walking Beam

This Twin Walking Beam steam engine model is my own design, but with a big tip of the hat to Elmer Verburg and Larry Dykstra for details and techniques. I got interested in model steam engines through my father-in-law who built quite a few after retirement in Pensacola. I inherited Bruce’s metal...

    Flywheel

Thanks to everyone for the assistance on drilling the 4" brass flywheel. I used step-drilling (9 steps) as recommended after SECURELY mounting the wheel to the X-Y-rotary table and used two hands on the spindle handles to limit bit grabbing. It worked fine, thanks. I'm not familiar with 0...

    Flywheel

I mounted the flywheel on a board clamped to my rotary table on the drill press; there was a 1/4" wood dowel through the center and a 1/8" drill bit through a 1/8" hole in the flywheel to stabilize it. I went straight to a 1/2" bit which chattered badly and, upon breaking through, lifted the...

    Flywheel

Before I ruin this flywheel trying to drill five more 0.5" holes, can someone advise the best way to do it? My tools are a Delta drill press and a 6" Craftsman/Atlas lathe with milling attachment.

    Air Valve

I would appreciate suggestions for an improved air valve for running my Father-in-law's model steam engines. The current one leaks and is a cobbeled together assortment of different plumbing fittings.

    Alum again

After breaking a 2-56 tap in a piece of brass and a 0.063 drill bit in a brass steam engine cyliner passage, I decided to try the alum trick described in posts on this site to clear the steel from the brass parts. It worked fine! I got a 2 ounce jar of Alum at the grocery store, put it in a...
