    303 is the free machining grade.

    Word of caution on using scrap metals, "You can not be sure of the grade of the material" which in most cases is fine, but it could cost a lot more in failed components and replace meant tips/cutters.

    Aluminium bronze ir really tough. have a think about using PB102 which comes in a limited range of squares, flats and plates.

    Gunmetal is not generally available in anything but rounds. LG2 or SAE660 should be fine for the job.

    Hi Cheshire Steve, Just trolling through posts referring to colphos and found your thread. We would have sorted you out with PB102 up to 1/2" dia and PB1 over 1/2".

    UK grade number for mehanite quality is "250" if anyone is interested.

    Same applies to 316 as well. Slow speed and give it some welly.
