I have a Boxford lathe as pictured below ( if picture doesn't work follow link its the 3Rd lathe down the page)

It is a 3 phase machine and I would like to be able run it on single phase but still be able to...
At the end of the carriage on my lathe there is a eccentric disc (a disc with a whole in of centre bolted on the headstock end of the carriage)
What is this for ? is it part of a depth stop?
Any help much appreciated
