    Sanford SG48 Questions

Hey Guys, Been several years since I've been on the forum excited to get back into the hobby now I have some shop space. One of my recent purchases to fill out a small amount said space was this sweet little Sanford SG48, it popped on Craigslist between my house and work so I had to jump on it...

gripping the inside of a small hole

thanks for all the great ideas guys, Ill try again at the eccentric shaft idea, I tried earlier but I didnt knurl it or anything. I like the collet ideas for grip but its a little time consuming, the reverse pliers and cleco tools both seem very viable. Thanks again

gripping the inside of a small hole

Hey guys I've got a bit of a improvement Id like to make at work but Im not sure about the best way to do it. We have the female halves of banana jacks that we need to instal in a panel the only problem is they are so close together you cannot fit wrenches around the nut and the flats on the...

Solidworks, internal passages converted to solids

I believe you could use convert entities at all the critical points to create circles that you could sweep using the section view as a guide curve, though Im not sure that's much easier than just redrawing the part from the dimensions.

peltier unit to power a stirling engine

Im not sure if this is the right place for this so mods feel free to move if incorrectly posted. Anyway, today I received a little "toy" from ebay, a peltier or thermoeletric cooler. Im sure lots of people already know about them but its a fairly simple device but a lot of fun to play with...

    Slow Motion

John, The shot was actually all taken at the same speed 420fps I think, but initially I doubled its speed about 3 or 4 times in windows movie maker to make it look close to the actual speed. Not really helpful to analyzing anything but does give you a rough idea of how fast its actually moving...

    Slow Motion

Great video very neat to watch, I have the one of the casios you mentioned, the fs10, and experimented a little when I had my southbend. The tool was probably incorrectly ground/ incorrectly used as it was just left over in the box of stuff I got with the lathe and my first time running a lathe...

    sherline questions

Hey guys so I own both a sherline 4400 (long bed) lathe and the standard 10" milling base but because Im confined to a college dorm room I currently only have room for the lathe. However the other day I saw that sherline makes something that allows you to attach the z-axis of a mill to where the...

    really neat video

Hey guys just stumbled across this on youtube its a cool video from the 1930's that shows all sorts of cool mechanical movements. It reminds me of the crazy clockwork book that brian posted and did a build on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5pen3QMgzQ

    3D modeling software wanted.

Ive used autodesk inventor for about a year now and it seems pretty good, I learned on both solidworks and inventor and they are fairly similar. I think it starts at about $795 which is more than you said, but they have free trials, and if you have a .edu email you get it and lots of other...

    Good micrometers?

well I ended up getting what I think is a great deal ($20 shipped) on a starrett #216 mic. They seem great and are as accurate as anything I have convidence in the dimensions of. They feel very nice to use my only concern, is a slight hang or spot of higher resistance at seemingly random points...

    Six Shooter Elbow Engine

Just throwing an idea out, couldn't you mill perfectly 90* elbows out of flat stock, then attach to a face plate to turn the piston diameters. Then with a radius tool, rotary table and some creative fixturing mill it to look like a rod? Im still quite an amateur so no idea how practical this...

    Good micrometers?

Hey guys, for my machining so far I have just been using a pair of import 8" dial calipers. I've been thinking and for a fair amount of my machining, engine making included, I would like to be a little more precise. So I have started looking at micrometers but I only have brief experience with...

    Compressed Air Cannon

I've built my fair share of air powered cannons you should check out www.spudfiles.com they have some amazing stuff. What material are you looking to construct it from, Ive built them from pvc, copper and brass. The best design I have seen so far is a coaxial piston valve, heres a basic diagram...
