just happened onto this discussion, between vise-cleaning and fetching screws for tooling:
This occurs to me:
first: separate all the various forces, such that the crankshaft (by itself), the big end of the connecting rod as it rotates, the small end as it reciprocates - all of these, handle...
Another possibility is to use the 'fine' gray-color 'Scotch-Bright' pads. They're sore of like an easier-to-use version of steel wool.
Brasso and a soft cloth might work well also. I've used it for cleaning brass machine parts.
Vinegar and water does work, but if the discoloration is an issue...
I'm better, but not over that cussed sickness yet. Still, managed to dig out much of what I need to do so as to post pictures. Updated drawing follows.
In looking at the pieces for these, I'm mildly amazed that I did as well as I did. The camera battery is charging right now. I hope to post...
Insert tooling, for positive ground inserts. (222 if I recall their size correctly - the 'commonest' variety work well.)
Materials: 7/16ths drill rod, 7/16ths cold drawn W1, 1/4 inch brass rod for shims, 8-32 (?) socket head screws, heat source, quenchant.
Oh, and a lathe. You make these ON...
Yes, you can. I have one that I made years ago.
If you make it out of 0-1 tool steel (oil quenched) then draw it back to a 'medium straw' after first turning it to the desired shape on the lathe and either milling the flat parts or (as I did years ago) make them with a file. I did mine by...
> Would capacitance anywhere in the circuit help?
I suspect it might. The transistor goes 'off' to trigger the spark, with the inductance in the primary and secondary serving as an energy storage element. The sudden *change* in the primary current causes the spark, and without the capacitor...
After reading your post, I whispered 'Ow!' I then thought about what happened to me...
Granted, over thirty years ago; different hand; but two surgeries needed... Most of the fingers are still there, but the index finger is just for looks, the ring finger is short a joint, and I have nerve...
