Look into the Steam Automobile Club Of America. The experimental steam guys in the club build crazy stuff like this all the time. Check out www.kimmelsteam.com for some inspiration.

Thats a great idea to use a ceiling fan motor! If you can find an early 1900s fan to start with they sometimes have spoked rotors like the generators shown. I think its a great start to a project!

You might be onto something with that idea

Just got this scratch built hot bulb two cycle semi-diesel engine model. I think the builder was loosely copying a Mietz & Weiss engine, unless somebody knows of anything else he might have been copying. Anyone know enough about big hot bulb oilfield engines to say what all this still needs??

I see what you are saying about the cam but there is no bracket to hold a vertical camshaft, whatever it is, it was strange.

Casting kits with most of the small bits machined.

Model 2 1/2 hp Perkins compared to the 7 hp casting kit. He was copying a full size Perkins engine that had been in his family since new. All of the governor, and valve train parts are on the opposite sides as compared to the casting kits.
