    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Interesting Jason! I've not started on my heads yet. I think I will try taking a few thou at a time off the bottom of the rocker posts to try to get a tight lined up fit. I'm going to use rimfire vr2 (maybe long reach) plugs but will try to get hold of a thin sided box spanner to work out how...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Very interesting Jason. To be honest I think I missed the reference to a "small" chamfer at the bottom of the liner. Cheers Andrew

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Hi Brian Thanks for the mention. I hope you manage to get the engine running at some point. Don't give up! Cheers Andrew

My Jerry Howell v-twin (s/n #599) has sprung into life

Thanks Scott. Unfortunately it can become a bit of an addiction! Cheers Andrew

My Jerry Howell v-twin (s/n #599) has sprung into life

Thanks Kees. Your 3D printed v4 looks amazing. Yeah I only run for short periods, so no fans needed. I found that the only weak element of the V-twin design is the tiny brass connector between the gear case and the crankcase. Otherwise the engine runs very well. Cheers Andrew

Any plans for a v-twin small engine around?

I've made both the Hoglet and Jerry Howell v-twin. Both builds are documented on my YouTube channel. The playlist for the Hoglet is here: The JH v-twin is a more complex build. Cheers Andrew

    David Kerzel plans

Hi James Don't be put off making your own piston rings. It's fun and you will get a real sense of achievement. My video below shows the method I used for the very first time. I've used the same method several times since then and always had great success. It takes less than a day to make several...

What kind of spark plug do I need?

Just for info. The odds n ends engine drawing shows a Honda cm-6 spark plug which is M10 x 1. Mind you, when I made mine I used a 1/4" x 32 plug cos that is what I had kicking around. I hope you get it running soon. Cheers Andrew

    GEAR CUTTERS

Kripto beat me to it! Take the easy option and buy a couple of Mod 0.5 gear cutters. You just need to modify the distance between centres, as in my video.

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

Ha ha. Unfortunately it takes me ages to make a nameplate and I have too many other pressures on my time. I don't mind doing the odd favour though.😉

Electric Starter System for Model Engines

Hi Brian - thanks for the shout out. Your solution looks good. For info - I managed to find a geared motor on eBay. I've pinned the following description to my video explaining what I later did........ I decided to replace my starter motor with a geared version. This motor was suggested by...

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

Hi Brian If you have a nameplate design in mind I could try to engrave it in brass. I would need your design in jpg or png format. I would then use Inkscape to trace the image and convert into svg format for importing into Fusion360. No promises but I would be willing to have a go. I live in the...

    Odds & Ends engine

Hi Colin I hope you manage to get your dad's old engine running. I seem to recall that the most difficult bit for me was cutting the valve seats. I think I decided to change the design a little and made some valve guides to press into the 'head'. I should complete my Jerry Howell v-twin soon and...

    Odds & Ends engine

Hi Gordon I made a Philip Duclos odds n ends engine in 2021. It's exactly as per the drawings and runs really well. I don't understand how others have used a different carb, as its an integral part of the valve assembly. Have you got the fuel tank outlet level with the carb inlet? If not, that...

    Midlands model exhibition

Hi Mike I went last year and I found it very interesting. Unfortunately I couldn't afford a brand new Myford! The main drawback for me was the rail service. The trains out of Leamington Spa were full with standing room only and it took me over 5 hours to get back home near York. This year I saw...

    Another Hoglet

Very nice! Excellent tick-over. Could you share how you set up your starter motor system, including clutch and gear ratios? I'm trying to make something similar (I've got a scooter starter motor and considering a sprag bearing) but I'm absolutely rubbish at design. Cheers Andrew
