Installed a DRO on my SX3 mill

One thing I forgot to mention about the DRO Pros system is that it comes with a 3 year warranty which I thought was pretty good. Gary

Installed a DRO on my SX3 mill

I just finished installing a 3 scale DRO system on my SX3 Mill. After reading about all the problems people were having figuring out the Chinese translated manuals that come with most systems, I decided to spend a little more and purchased a system from the US. It is sold by DRO PROS and comes...

    50 endmills

Your tracking number will not come up with anything until the parcel goes through the Hong Kong postal system. With Chinese New Year going on even the postal system seems to slow down. Gary

    50 endmills

Have you used the tracking number to locate them? I received my email that they had been shipped on Jan 24 but the tracking number indicated that they did not leave Hong Kong until Jan 29. They arrived in Canada on Jan 31 so now we will see how long it takes Customs and Canada Post to get them...

    50 endmills

I placed an order last evening and this morning I already have an email saying it has been shipped. That is excellent service. He says there is one piece extra, a 1/2" end mill. I wonder if he is sending me a free end mill? He also included coupon codes for discounts on future orders. If the...

What kind of brass do I have?

I just tried soldering it and sure enough it will not stick. I guess that confirms that it must be aluminum bronze Ken. Now I wish it was round stock as it will probably be more useful used on the lathe. Thanks for all the help guys. Gary

    Quick change toolposts---again

Brian Have you checked out the tool holders at this place? http://www.cdcotools.com/index.php At $8 each the price is right. Gary

What kind of brass do I have?

This brass has a patina very much like my other brass. It might be somewhat darker but nowhere near blue or black.

What kind of brass do I have?

Hopefully someone will post a good use for this brass and we can all use up our stock. I'm going to tell my brother to take a magnet along on his next buying trip so I don't end up with any more of it. I tried drilling it and found you need a sharp good quality bit. I ended up using a cobalt...

What kind of brass do I have?

Thanks very much for the replies. It sure sounds like this version of brass has very limited uses. I will have to order a carbide cutter and see if that makes it more milling friendly. With the color being so light it is not a very attractive metal. Maybe I can use it up in making jigs. Gary

What kind of brass do I have?

I have to rely on my brother to pick up used brass and mail it to me. It isn't cheap but it is my only choice. The last batch contained 6' of 2" x 1/2". With the tarnish on it looked like regular brass but I discovered it was very hard to cut. When I went to mill it, I found it to be almost as...

    Quick change toolposts---again

It might do the job but they say it is for the 9" lathe so it may not be long enough for a 10". Gary

    Quick change toolposts---again

Thanks for starting this thread Brian. I have been thinking of adding a quick change tool post to my lathe which is the same as yours, but I am not as brave as you when it comes to modifying the existing parts. From what you have seen, would it be possible to modify a longer bolt to match the...

    Buying a milling machien

I purchased mine here in Canada last spring and so far I am very pleased with it. I have added a spindle lock and spindle depth stop which have made it much nicer to use. I'm sure you would like it. Gary

    rc parts (home machined)

My thumb used to quickly became irritated by the sharp points on the transmitter control sticks, especially the right hand stick. I made this new knob out of brass but will be replacing it with an aluminum one. The curve in the top of the knob is very comfortable on the thumb and I have never...

Wood Beam Engine fabricated by SAM

That engine was my last years project. You are right, there is a lot more woodworking to this engine than metalworking. If you do not want to bother with all the tenon joints you can use small dowels instead. It is a real fun build and will run very slow just like a full size version would...

    SX3 DRO

Thanks for the info Steve. I expect that most of my work will be very light milling as my main interest is small engine models. I suppose one never knows where this hobby will lead them though. Gary
