Looking for a Cylindrical (barrel) cam

Barrel cams can be made with a simple lever relationship I saw one maybe 60-70 years ago and now do not remember the relationship of the levers, but you are taking a cam and putting a sine wave in it. it took 4 easy setups and did one quarter of the cam at a time and just the X axis on the mill...

Brown and Sharp 2G screw machine ?

He most likely would want a B & S Model 00 which does maximum screw sizes of 5/16 dia x 2 " long "IF" he went that way......... but the small CNC lathe is a much better idea. And I believe the mentioned Model "2 G" is for 2" diameter stock . Depending on the work, you have to be prepared...

    Aluminium casting problem.

Well, I am not an expert, even though I have done some casting (Alum ,Bronze ,CI) i think mixing your scrap is a bad idea. For the best and easiest , stay with Automatic transmission housings (A 356) IMHO . Doing wheels and others is a crap shoot--again IMHO. when I worked at the Die company...

    Stephenson’s Rocket

Well Bob, I can see why the crosshead parts are "Unique" in construction. I drew up the rear crosshead ( Inside half ) and it is complex Here is a sketch--Tough part if all solid.. Silver solder solution I am afraid Rich

    Stephenson's Rocket mm

Translated for Samet " Hello, has anyone ever built a true steam-powered Stephenson rocket? Because even in the plans, it doesn't run on steam, while the ones I see on YouTube are either air-powered or not functional toys. I would appreciate it if you could help with this situation." I guess ...

    Stephenson’s Rocket

Bob I saw that pump plunger and have to assume they had a feed water pump on one side of the engine coming off the crosshead. For the "V" grooves I would suggest using a 45 degree fixture for the milling instead of rotating the mill head The rear of the crosshead looks pretty straight forward...

    Stephenson’s Rocket

Bob, I assume you are referring to the crosshead as the problem part as I see no "pump plunger"part ? Wait, I see it now--need my glasses Rich

    Stephenson’s Rocket

Bob, Any chance you can post a drawing of the part here ? I have been able to come up with some crazy solutions at work on intricate parts and would like the challenge. Rich That video and your work is awesome !

Please tear my proposal to shreds. Repurposed turbo as steam turbine.

Stretch I have installed several Hydronic (hot water) systems in homes and have run/worked on commercial Boilers ( 100,200,300 HP) so I think I understand your objectives . according to the drawing, You want a steam boiler to run a pump and use a heat exchanger in the steam system to heat and...

    Strange reamer designations

I have some such reamers in my tool box that were picked up years ago at a garage sale or auction. I estimate the size and drill a slightly smaller hole in some aluminum plate ( 3/8-1/2 ") and then carefully ream the hole and measure it and then put a tape wrap with size on the shank. You want...

    Strange reamer designations

I am a manufacturing engineer--retired It is very Normal for shops/companies to have custom reamers for their products Some of the reasons are. Special lubrication clearance ( due to load or RPM) Engineering designs that never take standards into consideration of design ( Been there on the...

    Shaper as a surface grinder?

Johnathon , totally agree with your thoughts on the angle grinder , thats a real crude application. And yes, if you modify the shaper to a grinder, it would most likely be a permanent "revision" Rich

    Shaper as a surface grinder?

The big difference between Surface grinders and Blanchards is that their wheel is raised and lowered to control cut. While Rotary grinders like a Heald , the work piece goes up/down , just like shapers have with their knee to control cut Rich

    Shaper as a surface grinder?

Very possible .. They are called Rotary Surface grinders --see the "Heald" ad here https://www.machinetools.com/en/for-sale/196374-heald-22-rotary-surface-grinders And you no doubt have seen Blanchard's where the grinding wheel is horizontal I ran a Heald years ago and it does beautiful work A...
