    Edgar T Westbury Seal 15cc

I built the sealion years ago before Hemingways took over the rights. The casting were really bad I.e. blow holes and just poor castings I did eventually get it completed and running. I used hall triggered transistor ignition from the crankshaft (2 × Magnets) couldn't get points to work at all...

Well I feel like a 18 yr old.....anyone know where I can find one.

A new attempt at making piston rings

Hi Richard, No scoring needed, I just use 2 pairs of flat nose pliers right next to each other and twist. It's surprising how little you need to twist. In fact once you hear it break, it can be difficult trying to find where the break is. Graham

A new attempt at making piston rings

Hi Gordon, Yep, that would do it. And save a few hours in the workshop.

A new attempt at making piston rings

I can't believe how much effort people go to cleaving thier rings. I've said this before, but just hold the ring with 2 pairs of pliers( close together) and tweek. I've made literally dozens of ring and never had a "duff" one. Just try it people. Graham

    ETW Sealion

Hi Paul, I tried standard points and coil ( and I believe many of these engines have worked fine) but I had lots of problems stopping arcing inside the dizzy cap so tried all sorts of fixes even 2 x twin Honda coils using "lost spark" finally getting it running with 2 x magnets on the crank to a...

    ETW Sealion

Hi Paul, I'm in Kent, personally I would think very carefully about putting the hall device in the distributor, they hate emf. And I speak from experience. That's why I timed the spark from the crank. Others might disagree. Anyway fine progress can't wait to see it running. Graham

    ETW Sealion

Hi Paul, Nice work. How did you profile the outer block shape? You are obviously trying to replicate ETW build. I was thinking of doing away with the gear drive to the cam and using belt and pulleys. I also had real problems with the original distributor so triggered the ignition from 2 magnets...

    ETW Sealion

Hi weldsol, Very interested in your work, I started making the sealion from castings some 20 years ago and finally finished it about 18 months ago and got it running. The castings were rubbish but I persevered and managed to finish with modification to overcome the poor quality of the castings...

    Small casting (alluminium) aty home.

Reminds me of quite a few yeas ago I had a car yard and during the colder days, we'd lit a fire in a large dustbin. One day (just to see what would happen) I threw an air cooled VW crank case in. I didn't know about magnesium. Anyway it sent us running as burning incendiary bits rained down. I...

    Tim4 ignition

Hi Dsage, Thanks so much for you input, I didn't know about the current limiting on the batteries, I have also used the COP 's but the Audi type, I think the Ford ones are a lot smaller once the extention has been removed but haven't found any for the right price (dirt cheap) Once again thanks...

    Tim4 ignition

Hi Dsage, All points noted thanks. BTW my coil is about 1.2 ohms. Although some of the smaller coils (used for dirtbikes etc) are below the 1 ohm mark, so would definitely require a ballast. Resistor.
