    Stephenson’s Rocket

Very impressive Bob. I always wanted to do the Rocket but I'm not sure I could achieve your level of workmanship. Really enjoying the build, please keep the pics coming. Cheers, Peter

    I'm back again

Yep, gotta try and get back here more often. Thanks guys,

    On Display

Hi Richard, thanks for asking. Recently I've been trying to finish a model of the Endeavour, the ship that Captain Cook sailed in when he explored the Pacific. I started it twenty years ago so I'm obviously not rushing. I quite enjoy the break from engines and have built a few tools and machines...

    Thank you.

    On Display

Finally got around to putting some of my finished engines on display in my office. Nearly killed me lifting the big ones (17kg) up to the brackets but I think it was worth it. Cheers, Peter.

    New Years Breath Test

Well, I suppose you could get a job as an air compressor. Nice engine, wish mine turned over so easily. Cheers, Peter

    my ball turner

Nothing beats quality, it's getting almost impossible to buy workmanship like this. Thanks for the time and effort to post. Cheers, Peter.

    Cringle boiler build.

Copper end caps are readily available down under so I guess they are in the UK. There pics are of 100mm cap. Thickness is 1.5mm. Might save some work.

    Steam Engine Clearance

Can anyone explain to me the effect of increasing or decreasing cylinder clearance in a steam engine? If I increase the clearance, and by this I mean the distance from the top of the piston (at TDC) to the cylinder head, will the engine consume more steam? If it does, is more power the result...

I look forward to seeing what you do with the vice Peter, and thanks to you and Mr Google, I now know where Istria is. Good to have you aboard.

    The X axis.

Here is a video link showing some clips I stuck together of a gear being cut on my mill with the stepper motor as the X axis power drive. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Peter.

    The X axis.

Thanks for the interest shown in this post. Here are the three circuit drawings. There really only needs to be one combined drawing but I have broken them up in three because that's how I built this project, a Control box, a Stepper control box and a Limit control box., the last only being used...

    The X axis.

To continue with this project. If you care to look at the limit switch's on my machine, the pic is in the previous post, there is one really dreadful design fault. If the operator, (me) forgets that the stops have been set and cranks the table handle past this point, the stop smashes the limit...

    The X axis.

I'm taking note of the feedback but I won't comment individually, I'll just say thank you for the interest shown and press on with the project. The mounting of the stepper to the table was very simple as the design of the motor makes this easy. I decided not to use a flexible coupling as I did...

    The X axis.

Thanks for all the input, especially about the Arduino and other electronic control systems, I decided to stick solely with mechanical control for this as I understand levers, cams and such much better. Anyway, back to the speed control issue. Feeding the output of the PWM into the stepper...

    The X axis.

I decided to give fitting a stepper motor to the X axis of my mill, actually two of them but more on that later. There are a few reasons that make a stepper attractive for this task, they have good torque at low speed, they don't require a gearbox, are quiet compared to a planetary gear set...

    DIY drill press.

A good looking piece of equipment. There have been times when I really could have used one of these, quite envious. Cheers, Peter

    The X axis.

In 2014 I purchased a Sieg milling machine, the SX2. It didn't take long to get tired of winding the X axis crank back and forth, motorising this was the first modification I did on the machine. I wasn't very cashed up at the time (I never am) so I utilized the motor from an old electric...

    Automation of a horizontal bandsaw

Upload to YouTube and then post the link, that's the only way I know. Cheers, Peter
