Something to keep in mind, 1144 Stressproof is a specially processed type of 1144.
Not all 1144 is Stressproof from Niagara Lasalle. The stuff McMaster-Carr sells is the real deal.
I got some no-name 1144 from eBay and it machined like crap in comparison.

I just checked McMaster-Carr.
US $43 for a foot of 2" 1144 Stressproof.
Up from the original poster's $31.46 in 2011.
That grade is made by Niagara LaSalle Steel in USA.
Yup, I saw/heard that also. I wondered how many of those 1.5 million parts were rivets.
Some time ago I was thinking that Terry's work on his engine was something it normally took an entire company to do. And which they could not do as well.

I'm recovering from a hernia operation right now.
Years of moving car engines and Bridgeport mills around didn't cause it.
Had a violent coughing fit while brushing my teeth and "busted a gut".

Coming from New Jersey I used the terms that way, too.
At least used to.
But I've always wondered why it's Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
They weren't primarily in the electric motor business.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread, but what is needed to put 5C collets on this lathe?
The through hole isn't quite large enough for the standard 5C drawbar, is it?
