    First engine build

It is indeed, out of a PC hard drive. I plan to use the hard drive discs as the flywheel and hopefully mount it back onto the hard drive chassis to make it look like a hard drive from one side and an engine from the other. that's the plan anyway Matt

    First engine build

I finally got started on an engine after thinking about it for over 2 years. I'm basing it on the Little Machine Shop engine, but with some changes to use some materials and tooling I already had. This means it is a strange mixture of metric and imperial measurment. Basically the layout is...

Slowest running engine suitable for a begginer

Thanks for all the advice, I think a wobbler is on the cards, I just need to decide which. I have some material already so I'd like to use that if possible. I'll post something in the work in progress board once I start Thanks Matt

Slowest running engine suitable for a begginer

Both my machining skills and the tooling available to me (company has bought more tooling - we now have a mill and more stuff for the lathe too) have improved. I'm not too worried about making something to dimensions anymore, I've recently made some tooling for the company that has required more...

Suggested engine for beginner in the UK

Wow, that was fast. that was the conclusion i was coming to, if i just buy "steel" and "aluminium" and "brass" without any regard for grades will i run into problems? or are there certain grades i should avoid at all cost? I'm guessing these small engines don't require any special taps or...

Suggested engine for beginner in the UK

Eventually I would like to build some more complex engines, possibly steam but more likely IC and very probably a stirling engine but I'm a bit stumped as to where to start. It looks like an oscillating engine is probably going to be the best place to start but being new i don't like the idea...
