    A small non model project

Blue styrofoam insulation material was used to make the molds. For the fenders approximate shapes were cut and glued side by side from 50mm thick sheets to form the shape. After that the mold was followed with rough sanding and covering the mold with aluminium foil tape. Polyester resin does...

    A small non model project

So here are few build pictures as promised. In the first one the rear frame is being jigged for welding. The sheet parts shown were plasma cut and bend by students of my school. The pump plate and motor plate shown in the picture were also bolted in before welding to align the parts...

    A small non model project

Thanks. I will make sure to post some build pictures tomorrow. The machine sure helps when it does snow properly. The machine is capable of moving around 400 kg (880lb) in one pass. Its rather tiresome to move even that amount of snow after a day in school or at work:D Theoretically it can...

    A small non model project

This might not be the most appropriate forum for my build but I like it here so :fan: So it is a small wheel loader made as a school project during the past three years. The machine has a hydraulic drive train. 27 hp gasoline V2 engine is driving a variable displacement piston pump for drive...

    Friction welding

Ok thanks. So pretty much everything involved with any normal welding method seem to count in this also. I am fond to this method as it is so accurate, but I guess TIG will be just as accurate if a good fixture is made.

    Friction welding

I will try that if I make further experiments;) I was led to doing this how I do by some videos on friction welding where I didnt see anything related to inert gas. Do you know if inert gas is needed on mild steel while friction welding? Also I believe that some of that brittleness was caused...

    Friction welding

First complete valve made with this technique. Again it took three trys to get a holding joint. The other ones would weld but they cracked while bending. This one could take some visible bending of the stem but I am not sure how much it could take. The steel build up around the weld was easy to...

    Friction welding

Hi I did some testing to figure out if friction welding stainless steel valve stems would be possible at home. First I tried to do this with some scrap materials on lathe but I could not get a good joints. Also the tailstock was not really up to the task. For the next try I bough some 4mm...

    Formula 1 RC 1/3 with V8 engine

Unbelievable work! Can I ask how you machined the valve stems and to what kind of tolerances did you bind yourself in to? I tried to do similar valves on lathe but I had taper of perhaps 0.04mm over the length of 40mm stem.

    Mill experiences

Ok... I placed my order just before your reply. I bought all the tools I mentioned at the last post. v block and slitting saw sure would be useful but they must wait for now. I have dial indicator to set up everything. Seems like test indicator would be more useful in many situations. Now week...

    Mill experiences

Hey I have been lurking around in the dark corners of this forums learning from the masters. I bought a mini lathe about one year ago. I have done quit a bit of parts for my projects with it. But I run into the "need a mill" problem bit too often so its about time to get one. There...
