    1/4 scale V8, first project.

I'm not offended, I agree totally. People are always asking "where can I buy one" etc, etc, especially in thecomment sections on youtube. I'm always tempted to say getting an engine is simple really, just go to a community college or a technical school and take a machining course for 1-2...

    My QCTP Replacement

That's a nice cervical coupling you made. At first I thought you were making a horizontal turret, like the Hardinge CHNC design, but then I saw it was vertical, like a larger CNC turning center. Nice work. I need to make some turret tooling for my Levin Turret attachment, but I'm always...

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

Terry, The pics of you testing your gear depthing/mesh have turned on a light for me. I have a set of bevel gears in a gear box (they are the part of the head elevation mechanism for my surface grinder), and they are not meshing correctly, they are "cogging" if you know what I mean. I'm...

    Where to get Metric plans?

The P+W R985, and R1830 plans drawn by Bob Roach of Australia are all in metric. Not sure of their availability anymore tho. His contact info is on this webpage: http://modelenginenews.org/~modeng74/vernal/index.html Bruce Satra used to offer castings for both engines, but this new...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

Well, just to prove there are people who have actually built Offys, here's a pic from NAMES 2015 (photo courtesy of Ron Clark). From left to right: Julian Morrison from TN, Ron Clark from IN, Ron Colonna from PA, and John DeBoom from IA. As I said before, Offys are kind of few and far...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

The offy valve cages are .375" OD, .3125" ID, so that gives a wall thickness of .03125". You're right, if the angle is 45 deg, then according to Pythagoras, the hypotenuse is about .044". I followed the drawings here, and as far as I know so has everyone else. I think I did see your thread...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

My concern with doing that on the miniature is how easily can it be disassembled? My plan is to machine a portion of the main bearing web to the diameter of the crankshaft bore (+0/-.0005), this should position the bearings accurately enough and be easy to assy/disassy. Also, where the plans...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

I just googled Offenhauser Crankcase, and found this website: http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/1504-assembling-270ci-offenhauser-indycar-engine-step/ It has some good photos of the process. The only difference is the full size engine is big enough you can get your hands inside of it...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

I was typing my first post, while you made your last post! Anyway, as far as the main bearings go, is this how the full size engine is assembled? Well, yes and no. The fullsize engine has a fully enclosed crankcase, as in no main caps, and everything slides in from the rear. How ever the...

    Offenhauser 270 ???

I've built most of the parts for the 270 Offy. Just need to make an ignition system, and some tubes/pipes. But I'm really debating about tearing the engine down and making some of the modifications I've been thinking about for the last few years. I've seen 2 other Offy's besides Ron Colonna's...

1/6 P&W R-985 Wasp Jr by Bob Roach / Vernal Engineering

Mike, I have a set of Bruce's castings for the R985, and I also have a set for the R1830. My 985 is far enough along that it kinda looks like an engine at least. The 1830 parts are still laying in a box! Oh, and have a set of castings for the 2 blade and 3 blade prop hubs too. You're right...
