Has anyone purchased a Precision Matthews 12x36 lathe?

Mine is labelled "PM 1236" and then the serial number and date of manufacture (8/2011).

Has anyone purchased a Precision Matthews 12x36 lathe?

I got one about a year ago. Pretty happy with it, and the QMT post-sale service. It's the first machine I've owned, so I only have the Jet 1440 that I used at a makerspace to compare it to - and I think my machine is better. Would be happy to answer more specific questions.

    Linux

I haven't myself (my mill came w/ Mach3), but a friend of mine up in Toronto has been using EMC2 running on Ubuntu for years. I think he started with U-8.04, and is now on U-10.something, although I' not sure. We'r both software types, both use Linux in our daily life. He's on vacation this...

    Great supplier

They are great, and the prices are very good. The only thing you have be wary of is that around holidays or other busy times of the year you have to track orders more diligently, as sometimes things fall through the cracks. Happened to me on one of about 3-4 orders this summer. The good news is...

Accurate cross holes - without a jig.

That is great! thanks. It also solved a bunch of other related work-holding problems for me. 1 picture easily worth 1,000 words. Or, in my case, 2 hours of messing with the mill trying to figure out how to do something that turns out to be ridiculously easy :-)

    ID this Russian tool

"Линейка" = ruler. It's a ruler used to verify flatness and straightness of parts. You put it on the allegedly flat/straight surface and look for light to seep through the defect area. Here's the vendor: http://www.ua.all.biz/g321756/ And here's how...

    COMCAST USERS ALERT!

Wow! Another Ubuntu user! What are the odds? I'm with you on this, PerryRT. Been using one or another Linux since '97 - now run Ubuntu on everything - servers, desktops, laptops. If I can just get Solidworks to run on it :-( And double thumbs-up on the security advice. Back to machining: my...

    The Drill Doctor

This thread got me to look at Craigslist for one. I got lucky - got a 750 for $45 from a guy in Philly - almost brand new. Set it up, tried it on an epically dull bit - it worked like a charm! Next weekend, I'll be going over all my old bits.
