Brown and Sharp 2G screw machine ?

WOW ... you can teach an old machinist new tricks! I have never seen a Geometric Die Chuck ... just watched a video ... very nice if I had lots of the same thread to cut! What do the cams on the B & S do? Do they set the pitch or do they set the length or ? Thanks!

Brown and Sharp 2G screw machine ?

That is what I suspected. I have never worked in a production shop ... thus never seen one.

Brown and Sharp 2G screw machine ?

I am 61 and have worked as a machinist most of my life. That said, I have never been in a shop with an automatic screw machine. A friend who owns a small repair shop (he repairs Victrola's and such) just called and said he had been offered one very cheap. It is a Brown and Sharp 2G ... and...

    scaling for dummies?

Awesome you posted this! I remember being told of the "Roman" origins of the gauge and also several articles debunking this. Still years and years later the story is still being told. This clearly points out is was just a random decision by one person and that person was not thinking about a...

    Compressed air safety

I worked for an air house (air compressors and vacuum pumps) back in the 90's. No matter how many times we told people to drain their tanks, they didn't. I remember having one tire service truck come in and say his compressor would start and kick right out. I checked the tank ... filled to...

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

For the first time in my life, I am without a lathe ... well I have a few but they are in the tractor trailer beside the house. I am in the middle of building a new workshop, so everything is packed in for storage. Even when I was in college I put a small hobby lathe in the attic of the place...

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

WOW ... that is interesting. Funny how in my life time items we once called "jap crap" are now considered amount the best in the world. We now pay a premium to have things made in Japan (as opposed to places like China). Brazil must still have some good skilled workers (Mitutoyo in my mind...

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

Thanks! I will call around ... not sure if we even have a "real" watch repair shop here any more. I live in VT .... the entire state is rural ... our largest city only has 42,000 people, I think about 625,000 in the entire state. Like I said, I did try Mitutoyo direct and they just said...

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

Thanks ... I thought about that and did a quick search on watch crystals. I actually found on super cheap and the right diameter but it was made of mineral glass. I think it will need to be plastic so it flexes as the bezel ring won't. I check more in that direction they must make plastic...

Need bezel for old Mitutoyo calipers

So before I started trying to make something work, I thought I would see if anyone has a source for discontinued or aftermarket parts. I have an old pair of 6" Mitutoyo calipers ... 505-626 I tried the factory first ... discontinued in 1982 ... no parts available. I found a breakdown ... part...

    Stanley Style Steamer

Thanks .... I was told long ago, there was "almost" never a true accident. It was almost always because something was either overlooked in the design stages ... build wrong ... or "tinkered" with in the field. Maybe between now and when I actually go to build my flash boiler I will win a...

    Stanley Style Steamer

Yep ... bought all books ... wound a bunch of coils. I even made a few cat whiskers (growing up in the late 60's / early 70's were I only used diodes). I still try to find headsets when I come across them at a reasonable price ... they have gone through the roof. Just the other day I was...
