I'm a mechanical engineer. I work for a large company that designs power plants. Am hopefully very close to retirement!
Been a do it yourselfer my whole life. My early interests were wood working and auto repair. Then I married into a family that loves trains. My brother in law has a 1" scale live steam railroad and hand built engines and cars at his home. As I became interested in his hobby I added home shop machining to my wood working hobby. I have attended the local Cabin Fever Expo since its beginning. Was fortunate to meet Rudy and many of the other machinists that we all look up to. I have hobby size machines - an old South Bend 9, an Atlas MF horizontal mill, a Rockwell 21-100 vertical mill, a Little Machine Shop 3990 bench mill that I converted to CNC, bench bandsaw, and mig. Most of my projects have involved repairs or improvements to the machines themselves - like adding DRO to the Rockwell. I'm looking forward to retirement and having a bit more time to spend in the shop. Most of the engines I see being built by the members are far beyond my skill at this time - especially the CNC IC engines. Looking forward to learning.
