    Monotube Flash Boiler Design

When I have done similar Arduino based sensor readings in the past, I have done say, 10 readings in quick succession and averaged the results - or discarded the outlyers to calm the effects of electrical or other noise. It all depends on whether you have enough processor cycles to do this, but I...

    Stuart 10H build

Hi Steamchick, Interested to read your coments on turbos extracting the energy from the high pressure pulsations - I had always assumed that the energy extraction was associated with the (more or less) steady stream of exhaust gases and that the pulsations were more likely a menace ! Are you...

    Emco Compact 5 toothed belt

Pete, This guy in the States http://www.ebay.com/usr/gmaxton breaks Emco machines including Compact 5PCs and was very helpful when I wanted several toolholders. At least he may have some second hand belts or be able to define their size for you. Simon

Rareone, Can you contact me by PM - I may be able to help. Simon

    Gear forms

Don, Yes, as I suspected - as serialised in Model Engineer several years ago. I have so far cut 3 ratchet wheels, the first, I cut too deeply and the next two have not had the wheel tightened sufficiently on the arbor and they have moved ever so slightly during the cutting process -...

    Gear forms

Don, I have a strong suspicion that we are building the same clock.... For reference (since you seem to have made a perfect set of wheels) and for others searching, my method is as follows which uses the tools that I have available: Download GearBuilder - this allows any wheel/pinion to be...

    clip art to CNC engraving

CamBam allows you to draw a surface using an imported bitmap - setting black to a depth of say 0 and white to a depth of say 1 gives a 'digital' surface representation of the bitmap. Taking a plane slice through the surface at 0.5 then produces a 2D version of the bitmap as a CamBam drawing...

    High speed CNC spindle

Greg, I have built a similar spindle (doesn't look so nice though!) with a totally enclosed motor to which I have added a copper water jacket, a small pump (ex windscreen washer) and I circulate my water based cutting fluid through it. Advantage is that there is a large reservoir which...

How NOT to break small milling cutters.

Excellent idea - but does anyone have any advice about what to do with the broken tips around ~5-10mm long which I have been religiously keeping in case I could reuse them. A holder needs to be concentric and able to hold the cutter by the 2/4 remaining flutes. Lets hear those ideas...

    More engraving issues

Thanks Swede, I will try them when I next need some cutters - which is usually about half way into a project! Simon

    More engraving issues

Swede, I back up everything the others have said about CamBam and George's stick fonts which are brilliant. You referred to a link for cutters but I cannot find it in any of the posts - am I just being dim or has it been deleted? Simon

    High speed CNC spindle

dieselpilot, Some thoughts based on my own current experience of building a CNC HS spindle: [liHow do you intend to hold the spindle - this is the 'right' moment to build in lugs, ears, or any other type of attachment - having a near perfect run out but a wobbly or not truely aligned spindle...

    Metron instrument variable drive

Thanks for all of the comments. Just to give everyone an idea of scale I have taken these shots - since we are in the process of moving house this is probably not the ideal time to be doing this......! The paper is 5mm square and the rule is my Grandad's wooden folding rule marked in inches...

    Metron instrument variable drive

Hi All, I have in my possession a variable speed drive manufactured by Metron instruments from Denver Colorado which adjusts the speed of the output shaft relative to the input by a variable adjustable ratio - from 0.1 to 2. The output turns in the opposite direction to the input. The unit was...

    drilling square holes

Guys, There was a wobble broach construction described in Model Engineer (or was it Model Engineer Workshop) during the last year or so. Simon
