Took a while, but I made my own. I used .250 gage pins, and an adjustable parallel spread between them, to get the right dovetail width. It works just like the originals. This material is A2 tool steel.

Charles, no problem. I agree about the damping of cast iron, but don't like how dirty that metal is given how often tool holders are handled.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this machine, just want to verify when power tapping, you can just throw the reverse switch to back out the tap WITHOUT NEEDING TO SLOW DOWN THE SPINDLE? This of course assumes tapping at a reasonably slow speed to begin with.

OK, thanks for the info. The spacers do seem to position the reader portion pretty close to the final dimension given, which is a total distance from the bottom of the reader to the top of the glass scale housing. It's around 62mm if memory serves correctly. The actual was more like 63mm. A...

I am installing a Sino from Shars. Question, the readers are surrounded with red plastic slide guides. Are these for shipping only? Or do they stay on the DRO scales all the time? Thanks!
