    Thread die-holder

Gotcha! New dies are on the list. I'm relieved about the gap/split situation, I guess my inexperience with turning steel came to the rescue there mate ;) Orjan

    Thread die-holder

My cheapo dies are not slitted and can not be opened up, is this a concern you think? I plan to get better ones eventually ( too many things on the to-get list, funding not approved yet ;) ), If they are more than 25mmØ I can bore out some more and make a grub screw with cone as you suggested...

    Thread die-holder

Hi all, I just made myself a Die holder to go in my drill chuck (tailstock). I was my first effort at true dimensions in steel. It turns out all it took was; quit being a sissy and give the carbide insert something to chew. I did 1mm cuts and voila, good chips, nice finish and no vibrations...

Myford ML7, New lathe and I have questions.

Had a look at the cross slide. It had too much play due to worn out bushing. I made a new one (Ø12mmx2mm) out of brass, cleaned, lubed and mounted. Tight like a tiger :-) The original bushing was a nylon something or other and completely mashed. Maybe later I will remake it in teflon as I'm...

Building furnace out of a chimney liner?

No welding equipment I'm afraid, on the "to get" list. I'll use wood with a protective sheet of steel on top. Good tip on the I beam, will look into getting a length or two. Orjan

Myford ML7, New lathe and I have questions.

Hi Ned and njl, I got an inverter from a friend, capable of variable speed. I'll post specs and image shortly. I never connected something like this and I'm clueless when it comes to 3 fase ( or electricity in general, its all magic to me ;D). wish me luck! (I'll consult someone mastering the...

Myford ML7, New lathe and I have questions.

Oh no, now you've done it..... :noidea: I'm trying to be sensible here people, taking it one step at a time, getting the dear old girl up and running, making chips and most of all avoiding giving in to spending far too much money on something I bought on a whim (read: without permission from...

Myford ML7, New lathe and I have questions.

Hi don-tucker, Valuable tip! I might rethink the belt issue, as removing the spindle also would give me a possibility to evaluate the bearings etc. Ill ponder on it a bit, thanks for the tip. :) Orjan

Clumsy and unsafe you say? Well we can't have that now, can we. It'll be in the mail shortly. ;) And they say there are no more decent people in the world, just goes to show.. Orjan :big:

Myford ML7, New lathe and I have questions.

Hi Niels, A good idea, but the chuck in question is mounted directly onto the spindle with no use of a backplate. I have another 3 jaw with backplate, but it is already off the lathe. Orjan

    We are having a boy!

Yes indeed! ;D Will he grow up to be a machinist or a lecturer in ancient runes? Quite an experience to meet him on the ultrasound screen for the first time, his heart sounds like a compound steam engine though... Happy times. Orjan
