    Compressed air safety

Hi guys, Bit late to the conversation, a couple of years back I fitted a inter cooler with water trap to my compressor, best thing out! Prior to that even relatively short run times resulted in water in the tank, when using the sand blaster I’d end up with water all the way thru to the gun, not...

    Battery Electric Locomotive

Hi John, Have you got any engine type in mind? I built a Toby Tram for my youngest son nearly 20 years ago from a series in the Australian Model Engineer magazine at the time. Toby has done LOTS of kilometers & is fun to drive. The Australian mag is no longer produced, if you are interested let...

    Leaky Check Valve

The other idea is to use a silicon nitride ball, instead of giving it a belt put it in Valve & both in the vice using a rod against the ball & give it squeeze to form the seat. How much squeeze is up to you... A couple of advantages of using the nitride ball is they are better dimensionally...

    Emco 8.6 switch needed

Hi Rob, Are you a member of the Emco Lathes group? If so ask there, very helpful bunch of guys. This is an ongoing issue with these lathes espeacilly the push button ones. There is a replacement, home done, for those, I can’t say I’ve seen one for your switch but somebody will point you in the...

Acute table and Diamond tool holders

Hi Rudy, I brought my Tangential tools a couple of years ago, also got the parting tool, all work as they say. The parting tool make parting almost a pleasure rather than the butt clutching it was! I also brought the Acute a couple of months back, I’ve finished the build...nothing too...

    Tool Holders

Hi Pete, $68 is a bit step, but I can’t talk as it cost me $40 MORE to have the holder water cut for the knurling tool to Bazmak’s design! Yours look pretty close to a Dickson design. Have you checked out Chronos in the UK? They do a 5 pac at a freely reasonable rate. There’s a guy here in NZ...

    Band saw upgrade

Hi Rudy, Nice upgrades! Here's a link to what I did to mine... http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,6363.0.html Like your idea of using the clamping set either on the saw or table, I've got a 4" drill vice that fits on the base IF I take the moving jaw off....should modify that...

Knurling tool photos for Kerrin Galvin

Hi Gerrit, Looks good! They work extremely well don't they? Guess I should've just made mine as a block to fit a standard tool holder, as you have done, it would have been lots cheaper! But it reduced the overhang & I'm happy with mine. Cheers Kerrin

Knurling tool photos for Kerrin Galvin

Hi Gerritt & Norm, It was a fun project that has given me a great tool at the end! Norm, The digital angle gauge is a neat tool. Makes it easy to set things like the head in the mill to be consistent angle between parts...even though it's not required here! As to the QCTH yes well I love...

Knurling tool photos for Kerrin Galvin

Hi Barry, Here's the finished knurling tool. As you can see made 4 heads with 4 different knurls. I just brought the wheels. First thing to make was the locking knob, then the height adjuster for the QCTH I'll have a play with speeds & feed when I have time, thanks for the pointers...

Knurling tool photos for Kerrin Galvin

Hi again, Here's the rest of the photos.... Quick mandrel to hold the brass bushes for final sizing The 4 tool holders! Setting to center height, you might be able to see the laser dot on the corner of the holder... First cut! I put on 0.5mm, 60 rpm & a slow feed...looks pretty good...

Knurling tool photos for Kerrin Galvin

Hi Barry & All, Almost finished my knurled to Your design! So here's the pictures.... This is a block I started on to make a QCTH out off then thought better of it & brought one! So time to make use of it. So I measured up all my holders & drew them up in CAD & off to see my local water cut...
