    Gerstner tool chest question

Nice job on the chest! Is it finished? Got pics? Concerning Gerstner back panels, they are veneered plywood. According to Gersner it is for improved stability of the wood. The MH drawer dims have changed throughout the years to accommodate changes in the MH dims.

Gus- Hardinge is a 1953 model. Got it almost set up to run drawer knobs for machinist chests. Several other parts to figure out how to set up and run. What types of parts do people need for DIY engines?

    DIY Tool Maker's Chest

It's probably goofy to most but it works for me. I separate the tools by fraction. 2 = 1/2", 4 = 1/4", 3/4", 8 = 1/8", 3/8" 5/8", 7/8". If I'm looking for a size, it is easier to differentiate between say, 1/8" & 3/8" than to have sizes with very little difference side by side. Of course...

    DIY Tool Maker's Chest

Gus- Here is my (hopefully) solution to drill, tap, reamer, endmill, etc storage. Measures about 18" wide x 20" deep x 13 1/2" tall. Drawers are about 1 1/4" tall. Also, is this the type of "Toolmaker's Chest" you were trying to buy?

    New old tools!

Gerstner sells the "leatherette" material and has videos showing how to recover if you are so inclined. If material is in good shape, you might get their "restorer solution" which will clean up the old leatherette.

    DIY Tool Maker's Chest

Gus - great job on the cabinets. I just picked up a small chest for the same purpose. I am curious to how others manage their collection of cutting tools. Your solution seems ideal!

    New old tools!

Great looking old tool chest. Looks like it's maybe from the 20s or 30s. Any dates on it anywhere?

    DIY Tool Maker's Chest

You can get plans for a machinist chest from ISSUE # 183 WOODSMITH (tm) Magazine's Plans. We sell another set of plans - The "John B. Hetzel" Machinist Chest Plans. Or...you can find an old chest and restore it. I like to restore the old chests.

Hi- I am new to this forum and new to metalworking. Most of my experience has been in woodworking. I recently purchased a business that supplies hardware to people restoring old wooden machinist chests. As part of the assets I purchased a 1953 Hardinge ESM-59 Secondary Operation machine. I...

I received the same message.. When I contacted them, I was told that I "was a spammer because I was all over the internet." We own an accounting, bookkeeping and tax service and have spent a great deal of time and money promoting our website and associated videos and apparently that was...
