    Obstacles when learning CAD

Chris: I am over 70, but have been working with computers since we set registers with switches. Hardware and most software is no problem. CAD is another can of worms. I can't seem to get my head around it. Wish I were close enough to take your course. John Burchett in Byng OK

    Removing machining marks from grooves

If you like puzzles, try: The puzzling world of polyhedral dissections, by Stewart Coffin. I got the CD, but the book has eluded me. It is also on the web on John Rausch's site under, Puzzling world. Great info for those who like to make and give puzzles. John Burchett in Byng OK

    HOT ROD OIL CAN

krv3000: Good idea on the weighted paint can lid. The extension .jp2 is for jpeg 2000. Most picture viewer software can not read this format. Not sure why it is not more popular. John in Byng OK

    Enco's 115 drill bit sets

Agree with starting with the cheap import set from harbor freight. The HF #1611 has been OK for me. The Drill Doctor is a big help. I can only get about 50% of my hand sharpened ones to cut right. When I break one it is replaced with a quality drill if I can find one. Here in the rural area...

    Starting Mini-Lathe Mods

Chuck: I bought a HF mini-lathe 6 years ago. Found it to be a little short in the bed area, so ordered the 12 inch mod from LMS. The 14 inch did not exist or I would have got it. Then bought a 13x40 from Wholesale tools. The mini-lathe is a work in progress; always something that I can do to...

Another part for the scrap bin

The cheapest machinable wax we have found is to melt paraffin 3 parts and 1 part number 4 plastic together. We get the plastic from large (5 gal) water bottles that are delivered to various offices. Usually you can get the driver to save them for you. May have to entice him with a beverage. This...

    Oilfield Jack Pump Horsehead plans?

TWMaster: Now that you are in OK and around the 'oil patch' you may want to call the device a 'pump jack.' No one around here would understand 'jack pump.' Now, 'jack sh%t' they would understand. Welcome to OK. Also, if you are interested there is a club: Model Engineering Society of OK that...

First some praise, then a question.

Hobgoblin: If I might suggest...have you turned the 'flat glass' 90 degrees and tried the y tram? Is the flatness of the glass known? I agree that this it searching for straws, but you are trying to get it right. I do not believe that your spindle bearings are the problem. Might try running the...

    Intorduction and Taps, taps, taps.

For Lew Merrick: Lew, I can not find Mil-HDBK-5 listed. Is that the complete number? Got the one about the screw threads. Thanks a lot. John Burchett in Byng OK

Workshop-Horizontal surfaces and the Magpie syndrome

Steve, I use a lot (12) of those baker's racks from Sams. Only problem is they hold 600 lbs per shelf without casters, but only 500 lbs total for all shelves on the furnished casters. So far mine are all mobile, but I am running out of room. John Burchett in Byng OK

    Elmer's Una-Flow engine (nr. 48?)

Thanks for the information guys. I was responding to a member who asked if the una-flow engine was in Modeltec. I am a member of the yahoo group and also have the issue of modeltec listed. I appreciate your help. Just looked again and the query was posted in 2007. So Mjp or whatever may not...

    Elmer's Una-Flow engine (nr. 48?)

MJP, asked which issue had a copy of the subject engine. I am happy to report that Modeltec March 1990, page 20 has the plans. He asked for a couple more of Elmer's engines, but I have not found them yet. Contact info is in my profile if further info is needed. John
