BF20/G0704 Spindle Belt Drive Advice/Info Request

Some great info here and ingenuity. I’m busy modelling out how I will do this. Following Michael’s example and the detail from his german site posts (thank goodness for google translate). This is where I currently have the design thinking.

BF20/G0704 Spindle Belt Drive Advice/Info Request

Michael, Super helpful! Looing at that adaptor I take it that you are pushing/glueing it into this fitting? Nice idea in doing the mill-athe like thing to get the fiting running concentric. Where you out by much initially? Also did you make the pulleys yourself or are they stock items hou...

BF20/G0704 Spindle Belt Drive Advice/Info Request

Hello everyone. This request is for both myself and a mate. We both have BF20 or equivalent machine that has been converted to CNC for hobby use and in that setup are quite effective. We are now looking to push them forward again with a belt drive upgrade from the current geared system. We...

    Alba 1A Restoration

Thanks Craig. Youtube can be a great asset. I have watched Everett’s restoration videos several times now. There is also a chap about 1.5 hrs drive from where I live who also did a 1A restoration. He’s Neil9 on youtube. Between these chaps and others I have looked at I have some ideas of...

    Alba 1A Restoration

Some specifics: The feed system needs some love and its so painted and messy its hard to tell if there are any graduation collars in amongst it all. Not the end of world as they can be made or a magnetic backed indicator can be added in. Something I will probably end up doing anyway. I have...

    Alba 1A Restoration

It's finally arrived! The new-to-me Alba 1A Shaper. This is my little restoration project that I plan to beetle away at over the coming months. Its not going to be a fast project as I also have to completely reorganise my home shop to make way for a new Lathe. I decided to take the plunge and...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Ropetangler - I’ll probably move to an Ali box at some point. But given this is 90% of the time hanging in space per pic it’s (fingers crossed) unlikely to get smashed between the floor and a heavy object. In the meantime I’m going to enjoy having the control I’ve seen others just assume...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Finished the max-amps control box on the TIG pedal today and successfully used it this evening. Finished "soap on a rope" control box. The switch essentially enables/disables the pedal by allowing me to stop the internal pedal switch from activating. So when in the "OFF" position I can push...

So I have implemented the test circuit and checked how it behaves. Looks like its working as expected. This is just a simple test setup. Next step will be to splice the control circuit into the control lead in a more permanent manner. Cheers, J.

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

I did some more tests and figured where I was going wrong. This should be the CORRECT circuit. Next stage will be to splice in a 10K pot and check it out with some welding. Or use this link. Cheers, J.

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Hmmm ... slept on this and did some quick measurements this morning. Not convinced I have this correct. More investigation needed.

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

While my TIG machine is not a bad little unit one of its annoying limitations is how it treats a pedal. When a pedal is added on unless it is of the dual knob variety the pedal will always do 0 to Max (200) amps. What you really want is to be able to set the max Amps that can be dialed up with...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

I think the shop setup is the project. :-) It’s very close now I think. The only thing I would really like to have is a small surface grinder. Problem is finding something that is in the small class. There seems to be more options on that front in the northern hemisphere than in NZ. I have...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Finalising the plasma extension as well as adding some handdles to the locking bolts. Simple addition to the locking bolts. Handles from 10mm round. Cut to length then cleaned up the ends in the lathe. A quick blat with the MIG and done. Really easy to use and large enough to get good torque...
