Finally finished my half scale Olds Hit Miss !

Finally got off my butt and reassembled the engine again. Took a little fiddling around with the adjustments to get it running the way I wanted but its ok now. After it breaks in Ill reduce the speed a little, hopefully. I'm moving from the island of Grenada in a couple of weeks so I'll polish...

    Wood Base Finish

So I finally got around to making a wooden base for my Olds Hit Miss. Im not exactly what kind of wood it is but i\Im guessing some kind of mahogany. Now I need to apply some kind of finish to it to seal it. What do you guys use to protect your wooden bases? It has to look good but it also...

    Olds Hit Miss half scale

Whizzerkid, Do you have your timing right? if you turn the wheel by hand slowly does the spark happen at anywhere between 5 degrees before TDC and TDC? If you remove the muffler on your engine and run it, and you look down the exhaust hole, you should see no red flash/flame in there when there...

    Olds Hit Miss half scale

Too late Jim, already been dismantled, sanded, epoxied, primed, painted, polished and put together again! I've tested it and, thank goodness, after a little tuning its running just as it was before. Now Im just working on the gas tank and then all I have to do is make a nice wooden base for...

    Compound Condensing Engine

I actually wasn't sure yet. I was thinking about it as I was drawing. I was pending towards fabricating the columns/condenser I think. Maybe CNCing the condenser and attaching it to the columns. I knew the cylinders would have to be cast because of the the steam passageways. The majority of the...

Cant believe it. I was just n the process of drawing this baby up. I always draw up any engines before machining to catch any errors in the plans.

Painting inside water hopper/around water jacket

Thanks Chuck, Ive heard that before from other people as well. But how do I know if an engine is running too hot or not. Im afraid I wouldnt notice when and if it did and bad things could happen :wall::wall:

Painting inside water hopper/around water jacket

So how do you guys go about painting inside the hopper and around the water jacket in a hit or miss engine so it doesn't rust in there? If I look into the water hopper I can tell I wont be able to squeeze a paintbrush in there and I doubt spray will be able to give every nook and cranny a coat...

    Olds Hit Miss half scale

Just testing it prior to disassembly for painting and general smoothing out of cast parts. Still have to make a couple parts like a muffler and fuel tank. Oh, and a base too. Here it is running on camp fuel with 10% WD40. It's not broken in yet as it only has about 4 or 5 minutes run time on...
