    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Just an update, I'm still working on this while trying to get stuff sorted after the move to the new shop. I didn't want anyone to think it was a dead thread. ;)

Bob J's No.21 Steam Engine - Plans and STP Files

Green, I understand your frustration. I have had a couple original designs (electronics, not engines) stolen over the years. One by my own gov when I submitted it to get permission for advanced testing. It's galling to know you created something, took the time to refine it, and showed it to the...

What have you been doing today?

Here where I live I'm watching the Washburn fire about 27 miles away as it works its way through Yosemite National Park. Temp is a bit lower today at 105'F, humidity at 22%. No air conditioning, just plenty of water. Model Engine related, just finished high-res scans of my original Morton M-5...

What have you been doing today?

Not much fun here either. I just sold my house of 22 years to move into my shop up in the hills. Spent the morning trying to arrange piles of 'stuff' out of the house into some semblance of order. It is my hope to reclaim some useable space to work on my projects by the end of the weekend...

    Fuel check valve

Vietti I use something similar in my mason jar bubble carbs. I've found that if there is *anything* remotely able to get jammed in between the ball and the seat it will. I still can't figure out how half of the stuff that gets in the seat of the check ball does it since it's only sucking vapor...

rudolfs diesel first diesel engine in the world plans

Theo, don't know if you have happened on it but e-rara.ch has a scan of one of Rudolph Diesels books from that period. I can't read any f the German text, but the pictures are nice. 😅 There was a good diagram on what looked like his injector design that I studied for quite a while, it reminded...

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Thank you for the heads up on this. I wasn't aware of a shrinkage issue. I have some prints done in iFun 3122 that I was waiting to invest after I figure out the mess I made of my shop moving everything. I even started piling stuff in the bed of my '41 ford pickup project. 🤬 I will have to...

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

I'm still questioning my sanity on the move. I built a shop with a big 16'x50' loft upstairs with nice views in the middle of nowhere ranch land, and thats what I'm going to live in for a bit. Machines and toys downstairs, basic apartment style upstairs. I've always wanted to try it, but at 50...

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Geezer - I based my project on his, but I'm familiar with Arduino programming and electronics. I did a long look over the project on the page before I used it, and found everything pretty much lined up correctly. If you decide to go with the project and have any issues, just PM me through HMEM...

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Geezer - I based mine on this project from the Ardu forum Electric Kiln Controller - Arduino Project Hub I have made commercial electronics and microcontroller stuff since the early 90's, so I modded the project to fit my needs. Overall, I used probabaly 90% of what is in the article.

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Geezer, I have used some of the castable resins before but they didn't want to print well. I have made a couple changes to my printer and settings and can get a good print out of one of the three resins I purchased. I will keep playing with the setup and try to get the makers wax castable...

    Replicating Bruce Satra's M-1 and M-5 engine

Sorry it took a week for me to reply. I'm moving out of my house after 22 years and into my shop up in the hills. The shop has a loft area and it's going to be interesting for the next few months while I figure out where to put everything. Steve, yes they will be investment cast and properly...
