    if you go the guage plate method, 5/32" is a common size in chainsaw sharpening files - so reasonable finish, and parallel sided round file. as for hardening and tempering and the neighbours - there is no reason why you can't harden and temper a small tool on the gas burner of your kitchen...

    Turning a ring

    When I was making Titanium wedding rings, I'd turn the ID as a cylinder and the OD as a cylinder, then finish turn the ID surface, and then put the ring on an expanding mandrel (made of delrin so it didn't mark the ID surfaces) and then finish turn the OD surfaces.     G'Day from WA (Western Australia - not Washington)

    G'Day, just a quick note to say hello... stuck up in remote WA with a taig lathe (heavily modified), a taig mill (still not unpacked) and a myriad of handtools, etc. I have a website which shows some of what I've done... I want to so much more, but time is a scarce commodity as for the forums...
