    Rider Ericsson Homemade Castings

I am not sure what you mean? My/Jason's method retains bosses on all fronts. Rich

I did mine like Jasonb. Was a bit of a flashy casting but did the job when cleaned up. Ruch

    1/4 scale Anzani Fan Engine

I really cannot answer that question as the plans I am working from have the cylinders inline with the crankshaft centre line. Maybe it is a derivative as many variants were produced. Perhaps Ken or others could advise? Cheers Rich

    Rider Ericsson Homemade Castings

Another point. To make my casting easier to mould I cast the part without the fancy apertures, just the beading profiles left on and cut them after using a piercing saw. Also, I made the feet as a long rectangle to span across the legs which acts as a good feeder/runner. Maybe I am preaching to...

Lovely work! I built mine at 1/8th scale and used 3D printing for the leg patterns and a few other parts too. The cylinder however was easier make from wood turned on the lathe and bosses glued on. Without a doubt it is a lovely engine to build and run. Very satisfying.

    1/4 scale Anzani Fan Engine

This method is the only way to produce this part as it only measures 62mm x 37mm x 26mm and the fins are only 0.8mm thick and parallel. I wasn't even confident it would actually work as the refractory plaster is still quite fragile after burn out. Jeff produces some fine castings!

Hi olli Thanks for your comment. Maybe I got lucky? There are two more to make and it's a long process doing lost PLA castings. I have yet to try the lost resin route which would give a better finish hopefully. Rich

    1/4 scale Anzani Fan Engine

I should have been working on the crankshaft but I had to do some casting to do for my partners grandson so I decided to try my intended method for producing the finned cylinder/ heads. These are quite elaborate and have a cavity that links across to the side valves and spark plug. I am hoping...

I just noticed that zooming well into the images shows weird textures and are obviously an artifact of my hdr setting of the camera. I will turn this setting off and try again :-)

    1/4 scale Anzani Fan Engine

Having been distracted by other foundry projects and visiting relatives etc I found a little time to go back to the Anzani. I have decided to try and cast the con-rods in Silicon Bronze. My thinking is this will give me enough strength combined with bearing properties to remove the need for...

    What's happened to my crucible?

Thanks for that. I will have to purchase a new one. A quick question about the silicon bronze. I found the ferrosilicon seemed to take an age to be absorbed, in fact I thought the gooey dross was possibly mainly ferrosilicon. Did you experience that? The end result was still a bronze in colour...
