    80's F1 Turbo

Good luck. I've been hunting for enough information to build a model Cosworth DFV for the past two years and I still haven't found everything I need. And the DFV was one of the most used engines in F1 history. Any f1 v6 is gonna be hard to find information on. You may want to consider designing...

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

I stumbled upon Clisby Mini machines today. has anybody ever heard of them? Apparently they were in production in the 70s and have resumed production. very cheap, even cheaper than the taig. I believe they are australian. http://www.precisiontools.com.sg/CLISBYMINILATHES.htm Supposedly, this...

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

Yes, I've been on his site quite a bit. All of his modifications are very interesting. That's where I got the idea of using a treadmill motor

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

From what I understand, you can get a powered carriage feed for the Taig.

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I think I'm going to go for the taig. I'm going to buy the basic starter set, get some pullies, and find a treadmill motor and controller. For a DC variable speed motor, do I still need the stepped pullies, or does the motor have enough torque...

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

So you're saying that if I had a big lathe and at least the headstock of a little one I could build a Potts spindle?

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

That's what I'm hoping for! Edit: I guess I'm not getting a South Bend 9. It is one of my biggest pet peves when someone doesn't delete old Craigslist postings that are no longer available.

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

The Unimats sure are pretty though, arn't they? Just as I began seriously considering buying the Taig basic set, I think I found something a bit more versatile. Nearby is a guy selling a South Bend 9, asking for 200 bucks. I think he thinks it's just some old wood lathe. It appears to have the...

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

Thats a good point. And I've heard a lot of good things about those harbor freight lathes. It really surprised me, considering all of the sub par experiences I've had with some of their products. Its good to hear that they are generally well liked for small stuff.

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

That makes sense. I looked into the taig and sherline lathes. I still have mixed feelings though. If anything, the taig is definitly more in my price range, I just wish there were used ones available. I'd hate to spend extra money on a brand new lathe that I may grow out of, or not use much, or...

Whats the General Concensus on Unimat SL?

I have my eyes on a Unimat SL bed and headstock and I'm thinking I would like to restore it as a fun project to use until I get a bigger lathe. First of all, I understand that they tend to go for quite a bit of money. Is this justified, or is it just an overrated lathe? I tend to like the idea...

Detailed South Bend 9 inch Lathe Drawings and Information?

Wow, what an interesting idea! That bed certainly looks similar. Can anyone confirm the match?

Detailed South Bend 9 inch Lathe Drawings and Information?

I took a look at their website, and while they do have all of the original blueprints, they make it very clear that they are not available to the public unfortunately

Detailed South Bend 9 inch Lathe Drawings and Information?

Good advice. I guess that's all I can do anyway. The bed just seems pretty rare at the moment. Only one on ebay and it's almost 300 bucks... I registered on the South Bend yahoo group and I'll keep my eyes open on Craigslist.
