I know this doesn't have much to do with Machining but I think it is still pretty cool. Here are before and after pics.

Very cool. Do you have a circuit for it ?
 
The circuit is pretty simple. The only thing in the box is a 9v battery. The wire that touches the armature is the brush. The armature is grounded and the wire supplies ground to the solinoid when it makes contact with the armature. and the wire is bent so it breaks the connection just as the armature reaches the solinoid.
 
Ah - it's a steel can right? At first I thought it was aluminium and was looking for magnets or something fancy.

But it is soooo simple. I like it. That commutator/switch is great!

I wonder if I have an old relay in the "come in handy" box
