Considering building the Hoglet. Plans call for two brass flywheels 4' dia OD and .562' thick, ID just under 3". Anyone know of a less expensive alternative than McMaster Carr? Online metals pretty steep too. Perhaps someone has some material left over from their own build.

Hi, whilst I recognise the density of material is different, I made my flywheels of large pipe steel fange with the centre of black strap steel, then chemically blacked them. Still came out as a heavy set of flywheels.

Check ebay, but look for that odd-ball oversize brass or bronze pipe fitting or bushing.

And just an odd thought here, but have you thought about using 4" wide flat stock and making a riveted laminated construction? It would certainly be unique, and very bad A$$ looking, depending on your POV.
