My ML Midge plans call for drill rod to be used for the wrist pin. I'm not having any luck sourcing it from my local steel suppliers. Looks like an eBay job. Is this silver steel the same as drill rod?

According to the manufacturer, it can be hardened by heating to 770-790C and quenching in water. My pistons have been reamed to 2.5mm, so I guess I will need to buy the rod in something larger and turn it to a press fit?

Yes drill rod in the states and silver steel in the UK and Australia .

The pin usually just floats on these small engines. Its usual to add a small bronze or nylon pad to stop the ends rubbing the liner so 2.5mm will be OK
