Hi to all the entusiasts :)

i'm not sure it is the right area for this post - but don't know to ask anywhere else:

several years ago there was an offer from a swedish engineer
for a set of plans and some castings for the Wright J-5 radial engine.

his name is Carl-Eric Carlsson

But since 2 years this guy isn't answering to any email and i knew only his email and a P.O.-Box

Does anyone knew anything about it ?
or is there any other source for the plans and castings ?

at the moment i'm not able to made the castings myself
(is planned for future but will take more than a year :-( )

any info is welcome

Frank

Frank,
I don't know anything about the Carlsson castings but that's a fine avatar you have.

I had purchase a set of castings from them about 3 yrs ago. I say them because Karl had past way and his nephews took over. About 6 months ago I was going to look on their site and it was no loger there. I tried to contact by email and no answer. You can get a set of plans from SIC magazzine.

You can get a bar stock radial from

Hi

@GWRdriver:
thats a project for me when i'm old and wise qand my skill is grown :)
and yeah - taylor's undertype comp. is a nice engine ...

@Tony:

plans for engines from stock are several available.
i have 5- 7- 9- and 18-cyl plans here
also several inline 4- and 6-cyl, V8 V10 V12
but the Wright has something magic - the name - the face - the challenge

today i have had contact to that people who initiated the project and his uncle has made the castings.
He will made me an offer next days - i hope i'm able to pay ... :)

(if not i have first to build a challenger for sold :) )

Frank

jimmybondi,
What sort of V10, 12 anything scale, aero or auto? If so where did you get the plans from?
Tony

Those are nice, all I can say is WOW.
I might attempt a radial of that detail in 20 years, if I have had enough practice by then.

That's why I'm laying low on mine for now. I can't get anymore casting. The company doesn't exsist anymore. If I botch up a head I'm sunk!
Tony

Frank,
I just got a return email from Alf. he said he has extra heads if I get into a jam.
He also sent along a pic of another builders engine in Denmark

This is starting to make it difficult on me Whittle.......J-5 scratch.gif

Tony

oh oh oh

can you
see starting it ...
hear the sound ...
pull out and rise ...

time to build it ...

Frank

PS: seen PM ?

Hi Tony
any idea what the wing span of that fine looking aircraft is ?

Cheers Rob

roundabout 2000mm wing span

- the J-5 has a diameter of 1143mm in original
- the model of Carl-Eric is scale 1:4 - means: the engine has a diameter of nearl 285mm
- imported into sketching software
- resized ...

Frank

Rob,
The engine is 12" in dia. So I'm guessing about 8~9 feet

Tony

Wow I was posting and Frank was.....So Rob now you have it in Imperial and metric :big:
Tony

WOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and you guys fly these ,,,,,,,,i thought it looked big but not THAT BIG   i would not have the nerve to let the engine leave the bench :big:

Thanks Frank and Tony and good luck

Rob

Rob,
I would love to put it in a plane but........me too.......knee's would shake so bad I wouldn't be able to stand up. I fly big planes but with commercial engines still $1000 motor, $1000 radio in plane, $500 kit 1 year to build. First flight knee shake too
Tony

Tony
i think i would have more than my knees shaking at those prices and time and effort to build,,,,,you must have some big whats its :big:
i never thought RC air craft could get so big

sorry off topic

Regards Rob
