I am making enquiries about selling machinery and models for a recently widowed friend of my wife.
Basically there is a full workshop consisting of a
1) Band Saw
2) Shaper
3) Adcock & Shipley Universal Miller (3 Phase but fitted to run on single phase.)
4) Clarkes Lathe fitted with milling attachment
5) All necessary equipment i.e face plates, 4 jaw chucks, milling cutters verniers etc. Basically every thing you would need)
6) A Fowler BA traction engine, about 75% complete.
7) A Brittania locomotive about 33% complete. The boiler on this is complete.
8) A Speedy locomotive about 20% complete

She is looking to sell the workshop equipment as one, and will split the models.
If you require any more information\photos, pleasse contact me

Mike

It would be useful to know the location and country where all this resides.

Best Regards

Welcome, I hope the reason for your having registered here at HMEM is/was not merely to hauk someone else's hardware. Please, tell us about any machine work that are doing or what you have done in the past, we'd love to hear about it. Any interest in model engines perhaps.

Hi Bearcar

If you care to look at my profile, I registered in 2009 and as I could not forsee my friend dying when I registered I would hardly describe this as a reason to hawk (correct spelling) used machinery and models. The simple fact of the matter is my friends widow has been left with a workshop and models, rather than see these go to waste I thought it would be better to offer these items to people who would use and enjoy them.
As for myself I am a time served Shefffield based engineer I served my time at Edgar Allens 35 years ago, for my own pleasure I now do drawings and 3D models of traction engines, and stationary steam engines. As I have always been of the opinion that model engineering drawings are just not good enough, a case in point is the Fowler BA drawings I am now working on, put simply they don't add up.
I hope this satisfys your curiosity.

I am very sorry for your loss, that is always a terrible thing to have to deal with and thank you for what sounds like some very interesting personal back round. That wasn't so hard now was it. Perhaps now that the ice has been broken, we will be able to see and hear more of your work, I for one would be quite interested to that end. Your desire to better finished drawings speaks volumes towards the passion that you have in your field of expertise and I salute you for that as too many times in this 'modern' world we live in, mediocre seems to be the acceptable standard.

Mike,

In all honesty, I doubt if you will be able to sell the whole lot just to one person, too varied a collection and most probably cost too much as a lot.

But I think, split into individual lots and ads, and advertised on John Stevenson's site, they will soon be snapped up. You would need to take some pics to go with each of the ads.

What you don't want to do is contact one of the leeches who specialise in buying whole workshops, you would get nowhere near a fair price.

John's site.

Hope this helps

Mike John's advice is good, there are also a couple of other sites you could sell on

http://www.steam-engines-for-sale.com/ would be good for the models, also Model engineer mag has a classifieds section http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/

I would be interested to know a little more about teh Fowler as I'm not familiar with a BA and can't think of anyone in the ME industry that supplies drawings. I'm a Fowler man myself having just about completed a 2" A7 and have teh castings for a Z7s under the bench.

Jason

Just posting a couple of pics of the Fowler, I have a set of drawings for this model, and I know Charlie had.

Wow! I was admiring all the work when I noticed the vice-grips on the wheel and realized the scale

I have a spare bay in my garage that is just the right size for that ploughing engine ;D, its warm dry and she would be much loved.....

Is someone building the other of the pair?

Jo

Mike its a nice looking engine but I've looked through my books and also have it on good authority that Fowlers never made a BA, They did make BB, B4, BB1, B4S and BBs and a BAA thats not a ploughing engine?

Whats the scale and who were the old drawings by, is it an old Filby or Sedgewick design? and whats the valve gear, does not look like Stevensons.

J

EDIT Looking again its more like a Superba as it has the third Tee ring and twin drive pins on teh rear wheels as well as Firth Radial valve gear.

I can confirm looking through my copy of "Fowler Steam Cultivating Machinery 1900 -1930" there was no BA designation and the only engines with Firth's valve gear were: K8S, BBS, ZA1S, ZHS, AAS, Z7 Specials, Z7S and the Superba.

Jo

Thanks for that Jo, its not a publication that I have in my collection.

Jason,

The book was one of a limited run done by the Road Locomotive Society for the Steam Plough Club's 21st anniversary. You would love it it is full of works photo's of every model of steam plough and implement the works made and it is one of my prize possessions :D.

Let me know if there is any specific details you would like.
