Hi,
Can the gearbox gear selections be made with the lathe & gearbox running? Or should you stop the lathe put the tumbler reverse lever into neutral and then select the required gears?
Regards,
Steve T

Have you looked at the gearbox? In my lathe the gears are straight spur gears and the need to be stationary when engaging. I never put the reverse tumbler in neutral and don't feel that is necessary.

Always stop the gears from turning before altering them. If they need to be rotated a little, use the chuck or hand wheel on the leadscrew.

Hi All.

From recent discussions there were/are two Myford gear boxes. The original was soft gears whilst the newer one was the hardened variety.

My old Mark 1 had been run on mahogany dust- or so it seemed. I had to machine quite a number of 20DP gears:mad:

Whatever next?
