I have scavenged a second hand turbo and built a jet engine. Very easy to get spooling and runs well but I keep getting flame escaping past the exhaust turbine and then get flame out. It's a waste gated turbo specked to open the waste gate at 8 psi which I can't spool it enough to get to happen. I'm wondering if I'm getting compressor stall or am I over fuelling it causing it to basically flood itself within the flame tube.

i was once told that if flames are coming out of the back of the engine, then you don't have enough air coming into the front of the engine.

if you don't have enough air coming in the front, the fuel in side doesn't have enough air to burn and waits till it gets outside where there is loads of air.
this was i problem i had with an homebuilt MW54. I did a few mods the the inlet cone and all problems went. no more flames out the back. bit of a shame 'cos it looked cool.
