Hi Folks,

I am just making some holders for some carbide threading inserts and could do with a little advice please.

The inserts have chip breakers but should the holder have a slight downward rake as the tips are vertical on the cutting face?

I have seen some tool holders with a built in slope and some that do not appear to have, which is the right way to go?

I am threading onto mild steel.

Thanks,

Arnak

Arnak,
My Kennametal threading insert holder has a 10deg tilt down. I use it to thread all types of materials with good results.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for that info, I thought they should be tilted down.
